An Airtight Case

“You can grill me ‘til the cows come home, copper,” Butch Hanover said, “but know this, I’m not some empty vessel and I am fervent in my denial that I was anywhere near the scene of the crime.”

“What do you think this is, Butch,” Detective Fred Morrisey said as he leaned across the interrogation table, “some stupid, low budget cops and robbers movie? Stop fooling yourself, pal. We’ve been able to forge together an airtight case and you’re going to be put away for a long, long time.”

Hanover, now furious, tried to lunge toward the detective, but was pulled back down into his seat by his handcuffs chained to the table. “I ain’t saying another word until my lawyer gets here. Then I’ll gleefully watch your expression when I get released. ‘Til then, copper, you’d better get a good night’s sleep tonight, cuz you’re gonna be spending the rest of what’s left of your short life looking over your shoulder.”

“You got me shaking in my boots,” Morrisey said, grinning down at his prisoner.

#WDYS — Living the Nomadic Life

You said you didn’t want to settle in just one place, that you wanted to live the nomadic lifestyle, that we’d be spending time on the road, traveling from here to there like flotsam and jetsam on the seas, floating whichever way the tides took us.

That sounded exciting to me. But when I agreed to go with you, it simply never occurred to me that you meant literally floating through the air on thick chunk of land and living in a permanent house as if we were on some sort of surreal, giant magic carpet ride.

This is just a little too weird for me. I think I’ll pass and go back to college and finish working on my degree in philosophy.

FOWC with Fandango — Fervent

FOWC

Welcome to October 7, 2021 and to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.).

Today’s word is “fervent.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. You will marvel at their creativity.
