MLMM — The Metaverse

For his Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Friday Faithfuls prompt, Jim Adams wants to know what we think about the metaverse, which is a virtual-reality space in which users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users.

I really don’t know much about the metaverse. But that doesn’t bother me at all. Besides, Jim wrote that the metaverse won’t be “ready” until about five to ten years from now, or, as some experts believe, it won’t really be ready until 2040. At my age, five to ten years from now I’ll be in my 80s (if I’m even still alive), and I’m sure I won’t still be around in 2040.

So given that, my general thoughts about the metaverse is:

TGIF — Rocktober

Paula Light, at Light Motifs II, has this prompt she calls TGIF. This week , Paula asks, “What are your October plans and goals?”

Plans? Ha! I’m a retiree. I don’t need no friggin’ plans. Goals? Right. At my age, I’m hoping I’ll still be alive and kicking by the end of the month. Yeah, that’s my goal.

Actually, I hope that October is a better month than September. I had a whole house generator fail in the middle of a power outage during a record breaking heat wave. Then, after I got the generator fixed, our air conditioner failed — twice — during that same heat wave. And with the stock market tanking, my retirement nest egg is tanking, too.

I guess the only bright spot in September was our family vacation, but it was marred when our grandson got sick with a cough, cold, and high fever. Our son and his family had to leave a day early to get their son to the doctor. He’s okay. His temperature is back down close to normal and he’s feeling a lot better.

So, with no specific plans and a goal of October being a better month than September — a low bar, indeed — I’m hoping October will rock. Because in early November, the U.S. will be having its midterm elections, and I’m expecting that November will be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad month.

And on that sad note, happy TGIF, everyone.

Fibbing Friday — Currency Conversions

Di (aka Pensitivity101) and Melanie (Sparks From a Combustible Mind) alternate as hosts for Fibbing Friday, a silly little exercise where we are to write a post with our answers to the ten questions below. But as the title suggests, truth is not an option. The idea is to fib a little, a lot, tell whoppers, be inventive, silly, or even outrageous, in our responses. This week it’s Di’s turn and she’s given us some currency abbreviations and asked us what they stand for if they weren’t currency abbreviations.

1. GBP

Grab ‘em By the Pussy, a Donald Trump quote.

2. USD

Up Side Down, when you owe more on your mortgage than the house is worth. Sometimes also called “underwater.”

3. CHF

Continuously Horny Fellow, a sex-starved man.

4. EUR

Election Under Review, part of Trump’s Big Lie that he didn’t really lose the 2020 presidential election.

5. DOP

Don’t Operate Pump.

6. INR

It’s Not Right.

7. ISK

It Stopped Knocking.

8. JPY

Just Pull, don’t Yank.

9. MYR

Make Yourself Ready.

10. THB

Take a Hot Bath.

Perchance to Dream

I was quite perplexed by a dream I had last night. At the beginning of the dream I saw two hippopotamuses wearing tutus and swing dancing to the Benny Goodman song, “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

It was fascinating. Until my fun dream turned into a nightmare.

The happy, swing-dancing hippos suddenly transformed into a group of living mops who carried buckets and buckets of water and dumped them all onto the floor, turning my house into complete disarray.

I woke up in a sweat, with a twinge of regret. My wife warned me when we were watching Disney’s classic animated movie “Fantasia” last night that eating a pastrami sandwich right before bedtime would give me indigestion. I think she jinxed me.

Sunday Photo Fiction — The Playouse

Amanda came running into the house that her father and mother were looking at and excitedly asked, “Daddy, can we buy this house?”

“Do you like this house?” he asked her.

“Oh yes,” Amanda said. “There’s a playhouse in the backyard, Daddy. It looks like a Hansel and Gretel house.”

“Is it made out of candy and treats?” Amanda’s father asked her.

“Daddy, don’t be silly,” Amanda laughed. “But it looks like a storybook cottage. Come see.”

As it turned out, Amanda’s parents bought the house with the playhouse in the backyard. It came with a small table and chairs and shelves on the walls, and Amanda moved her dolls and stuffed animals onto the shelves and set up her tea set on the table. She would go to the playhouse every day to play tea party with her dolls, stuffed animals, and her imaginary friend.

Until one day when she came running into the house in tears. “What’s the matter, sweetie?” her mother asked.

“She tore apart my dolls and stuffed toys,” Amanda cried.

“Who did?” her mother asked.

“My friend who lives in the playhouse.”

Amanda’s mother followed Amanda to the playhouse, looked inside, and screamed.
