The genre of music I listen to most these days is classic rock. But it wasn’t that long ago, maybe 15-20 years ago, that my music genre of choice was new age.
New age music is a combination of mostly instrumental pieces creating sounds of a soothing, romantic, mood-elevating, and sometimes sensual nature. It’s broadly defined as relaxing, even “meditative,” music. Unlike relaxing forms of classical music, new age music makes greater use of electronic sounds and non-Western instrumentation. I used to describe new age music as a fusion of classical, jazz, and rock.
The large percentage of musical sounds described as new age is instrumental and electronic, although vocal arrangements, while less common, are part of the genre. Enya, for example, won a Grammy for her new age music. She has an ethereal, almost other-worldly, sound and sings in a variety of languages, including Latin and her native Irish and Celtic.
Some of my favorite new age musicians include Yanni (or as my kids used to call him, “Yawni”), the aforementioned Enya, David Lanz, Susan Ciani, and Kitarō.

Bill Douglas – Farther Than The Stars
{ If you go to YouTube generally (rather than a specific list of music for an artist like this one) for Bill Douglas, or pretty much any new age music, the subjects that come up are kinda of all over the place. Curious topics. [That would be the case for any kind of religious music too.] } Okay… I’m curiois, Fandango, why were you into the music, and why are you not now? I’ve listened to a lot of Enya… not so much lately, though. But I listen to Spa on SiriusXM. (I personally don’t perceive Spa to be heavily New Age, if at all, in theme. But I see a similarity in the relaxation.}

Well… when choosing a song from a playlist like that, the title won’t necessarily match up to the addresses at the top and the video one is seeing. Drats.

It’s not that I’m not into new age music anymore, it’s more the nostalgia that listening to classic rock conjures up. I still periodically enjoy listening to new age artists on my iTunes library on my iPhone.

Dad bought a few Enya CDs – I like the track “Book Of Days” from the movie “Far And Away” and “Orinoco Flow” and she did a great version of “How Can I Keep From Singing”. But I think I prefer guitars on the whole.

I was introduced MANY years ago to Tomita… ever heard of him? My uncle got me and my Dad hooked on his music. A search just told me his album I have was in 1978. These are some good songs you posted!
