Sunshine Blogger Award

98BBD823-EF19-4ADB-8D5F-DA42BB75C32CLaura, at Lauravent69, has bestowed upon me the Sunshine Blogger Award. I typically don’t “do” blogger awards, but I appreciate it when another blogger takes the time to think of me and my blog. So I will always thank the person who nominated me and will always answer the questions they pose.

So thank you, Laura, for gifting me with your nomination. And here are the answers to your questions.

If you could only listen to two artists or bands for the rest of your life, who would you choose, and why?

Would life even be worth living if I could only listen to two artists or bands for the rest of my life? Probably not, but back against the wall, I’d go with the Beatles and the Eagles.

What is your dream novel, or idea for one?

I’d love to write a fascinating tale about two inept but endearing detectives struggling to solve a grizzly murder. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Do you remember the first book you ever read?

Do you know how old I am? I can’t even remember the last book I read!

If you could live in any sitcom, which would it be?

“Arrested Development.”

If money were no object, where would you be living?

In a villa on the Amalfi coast of Italy.E82510DD-39E6-42E3-BD08-4396D04A74D9

If you could INSTANTLY become an expert in something, what would it be?

The Amalfi coast of Italy.

Who are three people, living or dead, that you most admire?

I don’t know. Let’s go with Abraham Lincoln, Steve Jobs, and Stephen King. And throw in George Carlin for good measure.

Is there someone you would love to see live in concert?

The Beatles. Though I guess it should be who would I have loved to have seen live in concert.”

What was your favorite subject in school?

10th grade Biology. I had a huge crush on my teacher, Miss North.

It’s “Self-Care Sunday,” what are you doing?

Spending the day writing and reading blog posts.

What historical time period would you like to visit?

Any time prior to November 2016.

I’m not going to “gift” any other bloggers with this award nomination, but I am going to invite any and all other bloggers to answer these very same questions.

Let It Bleed — The Hearing

AB7347E2-9D41-47AF-8FDE-9D96D43610F7“Are you denying, Mr. Secretary, that you have ever had any contact with Elana Kamisorov, the Russian Intelligence agent?” the senator asked.

“Sir,” responded the Secretary of Homeland Security, “I don’t recall any such contact with Miss Kamisorov.”

“I have a photograph I’d like to share with you, Mr. Secretary,” the Senator said. He then directed one of his aids to mount a blowup of the photograph on an easel next to the senator’s chair. “Is this you in this picture, Mr. Secretary, in a warm embrace with Elana Kamisorov?”

After a short pause before answering, the Secretary said, “I belief someone must have mocked up or doctored that photo and I stand by my earlier statement.”

Losing patience with the witness, the senator picked up a piece of paper and waved it in the air. “Do you have any idea what this is, Mr. Secretary?”

“I do not, sir.”

“This is a signed and notarized deposition of an interrogation of Miss Kamisorov conducted by the FBI,” the senator said. “You’ve been a very naughty boy, Mr. Secretary. Miss Kamisorov testified that she offered to have sex with you in exchange for your providing her with state secrets. Would you like to modify your statement at this point?”

“At this time,” the Secretary said, “I will exercise my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America and refuse to answer on the grounds of self-incrimination.”

Weekend Writing Prompt — Fraud

AF87C8C1-24C3-4705-96CC-4DDB8F54765AWe can see right through you.
You’re a snake oil salesman.
You make promises that you know you can’t keep.
You say you’ve got our best interests at heart.
But that’s not true.
All you care about is yourself.
Well you can fool some people some of the time.
But you can’t fool us all.
You’re a fraud and a charlatan.

(Exactly 61 words)

BD965411-21FD-432A-BD93-27483D8C85E8Written for Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt, where we are challenged to write a poem or piece of prose using the word “charlatan” in exactly 61 words.

Song Lyric Sunday — Cold as Ice

For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday, Jim Adam chose Freeze/Cold/Ice as his theme. I chose the song “Cold as Ice” by Foreigner. I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of other bloggers also chose this song.

“Cold as Ice” was a 1977 song by the rock band Foreigner from their self-named debut album. It became one of the best known songs of the band in the U.S., peaking at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was written by band members Lou Gramm and Mick Jones.

The song’s message is simple and straightforward. It’s about a woman who is materialistic and selfish — a gold digger — and is throwing away her relationship with her man. He is warning that her behavior will come back to haunt her someday. She’ll pay the price for sacrificing their love.

Here are the song’s lyrics.

You’re as cold as ice
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice
Someday you’ll pay the price, I know

I’ve seen it before
It happens all the time
You’re closing the door
You leave the world behind

You’re digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you’ll pay

You’re as cold as ice
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
You want Paradise
But someday you’ll pay the price
I know

I’ve seen it before
It happens all the time
You’re closing the door
You leave the world behind
You’re digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you’ll pay

Cold as ice, you know that you are
Cold, (cold) as, (as) ice,
As cold as ice to me
(Cold, cold cold) (as, as, as) (ice)

(Ooh, ooh, ooh, cold as, cold as ice)
(You’re as cold as icccce)
You’re as cold as ice
(Cold as icccce),
Cold as ice I know
(You’re as cold as icccce)
You’re as cold as ice
(Cold as iccce)
Cold as ice I know
(You’re as cold as icccce)
Oh yes I know
(Cold as icccce)
(You’re as cold as icccce)
You’re as cold as ice
(Cold as icccce)
Cold as ice I know
(You’re as cold as icccce)
Oh, yes I know
(Cold as icccce)

FOWC with Fandango — Recall

FOWCWelcome to April 14, 2019 and to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). It’s designed to fill the void after WordPress bailed on its daily one-word prompt.

I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (US).

Today’s word is “recall.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Or you can simply include a link to your post in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. You will marvel at their creativity.
