We have become a nation dominated by extremists. You’re either dead right or you’re dead wrong. There seems to no longer be any middle ground. Far right or far left, with an ever decreasing political center.
Candidates seem to be wearing rose-colored glasses, uncritically and unquestioningly following their party’s talking points. No one is listening. Compromise is a dirty word. Negotiation is a sign of weakness. Partisanship at any cost is flowing like an ever-growing rivulet through the labyrinth of government bureaucracies.
In the meantime, across the globe, far-right politicians are winning elections by stoking fears, fanning the flames of unrest, and appealing to the poor and disenfranchised. And the climate change deniers who are now in charge are ignoring the facts and crying hoax while our planet is dying.
Please, America, be sure to vote a week from today. We need to stop this insanity.

I’m afraid it’s gone too far for that. I’m sure you hope for the blue wave to take the House, and even if it does, the violent rhetoric from both sides of the aisle isn’t going to stop. Certainly it won’t stop if the Democrats fail to take the House. Unfortunately, it’s only going to get worse, and I don’t where it’s going to end. Hence “street art” such as this found in New York City. It maligns not only Trump supporters but anyone with a Bible (I think the artist forgot that Jews use essentially the same Bible as Christians minus the New Testament). Bias and bigotry isn’t a political party, it’s a human frailty.

Are you talking about the word cloud sort of thing at the top? I don’t see bible included. Did I overlook it, or is it one of the tiny words?

Nevermind; I found the link you put in.

The second link is a bit better since the video in the first one can get choppy. I don’t like any people being referred to as “trash” although I get it. As for the woman with the MAGA Trump hat and the cross/book (bible), I’m reminded of Trump during primary season talking about Ted Cruz holding a Bible and then [Ted] lying. It’s pretty trashy to be a hypocrite.

I think the Bible is missing, but it ought to be there.

It’s there, though the implication that people who are religious are “trash” (at least in New York City) is probably taking it too far.

UK, USA: we’re all in the same sinking ship…..

The whole world is on a sinking ship, but we can still fix it. We need people who will at least TRY to fix it rather than hurry to make it worse.

Just True. Sometimes we must open our eyes, look around, grieve the losses then step by step pick through the rubble and carry on. Without incriminations.

I totally agree, and hope next Tuesday will bring some sanity back to us!

It’s not talking about religion. It’s talking about religious extremism as in religion used to divide and overcome rather than to accept and unify.

That’s very true, but I still can’t fathom how evangelicals can continue to support Trump. He is so unlike anything Jesus ever preached or taught. And yet they seem to love him.

I agree. But not all religious people or even all evangelicals support Trump. As in everything else, there are people who live their beliefs and others who just profess them. Unfortunately, the religious right now “stands” for religion while those who really live by the tenets suffer the backlash.

No, not all religious people are Trumpsters, but 75+% of evangelicals, according to most surveys, do approve of him.

I have to disagree about “Far-right politicians are winning elections by stoking fears, fanning the flames of unrest, and appealing to the poor and disenfranchised. ”
The shift by the people is to right wrongs inflicted on them by the old guard of European politics.
The Right need not to stoke the fires, the smoke already there is just itching to burst into fire.
I speak of Germany’s Merkel and the policies of her EU.
The forced inclusion of aliens by Germany and their EU puppets.
Suppression of the media about the problems it caused.
The rape, maiming, and killing of many.
Restrictions on policing and censorship on how any crime is being reported.
Those only scratch at the problems introduced into a once stable union by her and the EU idiots..
The EU itself.
Hell bent on destroying national identities, restricting growth and trading, and the endless dictaks which only make things worse. All that de-stabilization is real to them living there, living here, and many have had enough.
Then I present our UK. The now ‘Untied Kingdom’
We had enough of the EU but lack the politics (and Cohones) to end what the people hate. We need freedom from EU oppression. That has generated discord within and from abroad.
It didn’t help when Trump came in with his rhetoric.
We may be lost forever without a rebellion of our own against our own i.e. civil war as the political options simply aren’t working anymore.
And finally Trump, your Trump.
The destabilizing of European, let alone world, trading, his sanctions and tariffs costing the world jobs, forcing the cost of living up which degrades infrastructure though lack of state income..
The destabilizing of Russian / Chinese relations.
All this militarization and sabre rattling comes at a huge cost.
And while money is being wasted on that, other more critical services suffer.
That and people are now afraid, AGAIN.
Afraid of US led NATO, the cold war that the US restarted, the removal of treaties which will cause a new arms race.
From afar it may look attractive to prod the Bear let alone the Dragon but the reality on our ground is frightening for those who still remember the before and after of WW2, let alone the real Cold War. Something I was born into.
You should be afraid too. VERY afraid.
Technology now puts you in the firing line and no amount of Patriot missiles and your own nuclear arsenal will save you from total annihilation should push come to shove.
As for religion?
Trump is false, his God is wealth, his faith is money, his bible has nothing but pictures of himself in.
Can everything ever hope to return to what was?
I seriously doubt it while that rabble-rouser still walks and talks.
And American politics remains so polarized.
Perhaps you need to embrace the thought of rebellion again.
To put your house back in order by doing away with what has grown out of hate.
Too old to run now we sit here looking from afar at you and wonder if ‘Killary’ was such a bad person after all.
At least her rage was clearly evident and a lot more honest that the snake oil salesman who got the least votes but was elected by an ‘electoral college’, not by the people.

I honestly am not that knowledgeable about what is going on in the UK and the EU to respond to your comments. My focus is what is going on here in the States, and what Trump is doing to divide this country and tear it apart. I, too, doubt that things will return to what they were. And I also am very concerned that an armed rebellion is not out of the question in my country. And, in my opinion, with what is going on with NATO, the EU, and here in the States, Putin is doing his happy dance as he sees the Western Europe and the United States on the precipice of chaos. He must be thrilled.

Surely so and I find that kinda depressing.
Only I ask one favor.
Either break his hands or remove his tongue. Your commander in chief may put my own in harms way and that is unacceptable to me.
I would love the chance to explain that to him one on one. Only I reckon the pussy wouldn’t have the nerve to face an OAP disabled vet, one on one.

I remember the Nigel Farage character weaving himself into your (UK) politics and ours (US) around election time(s) and over the Brexit decision. I do believe this is an extension of the Cold War. But we are susceptible because of the increase of the poor and vulnerable (decrease of true middle class), and the confusion as to why that is.

And because of social media and Russian bots and disinformation.

You are right of course. All politicians suck, including the Farage’s in the world.
Only in the cheap seats we live in, there is no confusion at all. Government care nothing for the little people in life. Thus they have to be removed.
If democracy fails then violence will follow.
