Who Won the Week? 01/10/2021

FWWTWThe idea behind Who Won the Week is for you to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.

I will be posting this prompt on Sunday mornings (my time). If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.

Last week I designated “hope” as The Who Won the Week winner. I may have been premature or a bit naïve to think that, just because we turned the page to a new year, anything would change in Donald Trump’s America.

This week we saw that it was domestic terrorism that “won” the week, when a horde of Trump supporters, spurred on by the sitting Presidential of the United States himself, stormed the U.S. Capitol building in what was an act of insurrection against America. The whole world watched Wednesday’s events in horror as the unthinkable was occurring right before our eyes.

It’s just 10 days before the inauguration of Joe Biden and instead of being filled with hope, I am filled with anxiety as I see headlines like these on my iPhone’s screen.I worry that horrific scenes like those we saw in Washington, DC on Wednesday will be repeated not only in our nation’s capital, but at state houses all across the country.

Why isn’t Donald Trump calling for his fanatical mad dogs to stand down? Because he lives for this. He loves this. And even when he is no longer sitting in the Oval Office, he will continue to sow the flames of insurrection among his rabid, mindless supporters.

This is truly an American tragedy.

What about you? Who (or what) do you think won the week?

I’ve been afraid of this since 2016. If he had lost, the same would have happened. 🤬

Nobody won anything this week. America lost as a nation. We have spectacularly failed, and not only was democracy dismantled, but five people died. My liberal friends criticize me because I’m not calling for blood, and my conservative friends criticize me because I don’t believe Trump was “cheated.” I’m in literal no man’s land. It’s not about winning or losing anymore, it’s about the majority of those of us to lean even slightly right of center. Thanks to Trump and those goons in DC, our nation has been handed over to a single political party that has suddenly become immune from criticism. Really, in a metaphorical sense, Biden and Harris could machine gun babies to death in the streets and the instant a conservative said “that’s wrong,” they’d be shut down as a “Trumper.” I just found out the free speech alternative to twitter called Parler is being shut down by Amazon and Apple. Yes, absolute free speech can and has been misused, but for people like me, we only see who we follow. Many of my conservative Christian friends have moved from Facebook and twitter because they’re tired of the biases against them. None of us approved of the violence in DC, but we’re blamed anyway. You think the next four years are going to be better and in a sense, I can see you’re point of view. But the reality is that Biden and Harris are going to be very polite about everything and use soothing words such as “unity” as they continue to remove human rights, convincing us that it’s for our own good as if we’re a nation of babies. Winning? We’re losing and we’re going to keep losing. Trump handed the keys to everything that used to be free in our nation.

Nancy Pelosi is one of the few people to openly stand up to Trump and she is willing to go after him, so I am saying that she won the week.

I heartily agree. She had the presence of mind to contact Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to gain assurance that Trump couldn’t use the nuclear codes. She was unflappable, even though she was targeted and had to be rushed to a secret location.

Yep, she is definitely trying to hold him accountable … and he should be.

No one.  Especially not anyone connected to the government, well maybe Pence who is in real danger now.  Finding out Trump appointed officials held back help to dispel the crowds, etc?  They are all negligent and liable.  I’m disgusted.  Every single person involved should be held up on murder charges.

I think the governor of Maryland who has exposed that this was a more organized coup that Trump will ever admit to.

Perhaps it doesn’t make much sense, but I would nominate Frederic Edwin Church who has been dead for a while, but his paintings are now finally on Twitter. Or maybe I should nominate the people who code these artbots for Twitter instead. Obviously 99% of the internet is straight garbage, or worse, but if there is any benefit to Twitter or social media in general, it’s the ability to share great art to large swaths of people who otherwise wouldn’t be exposed.

I agree, even to us, sitting on the other side of the globe, I find it too horrible even to think.

On a note closer to home… I think Covid may have won the week. My daughter and future son-in-law are both sick after having been with his uncle who has been confirmed to have Covid. They should get their test results back tomorrow. My son-in-law’s brother has also been confirmed to have it. 🥺

Two of my sons have had it, and I’ve had it (although I didn’t get a test). I say this so you know it doesn’t have to always be too terrible. Focus on nutrition even if no one has to go to the hospital. I made sure to take plenty of zink and vitamin D (and a good multivitamin). I hope everyone gets well, soon.

Thank you Marleen! The test results came back as negative for both of them. That is a big relief!

I’m so sorry, Leigha. I hope their test results are negative for the virus.
