Share Your World

I have an important announcement to make. Due to health concerns, this is my last post on WordPress. I am ending my blog after I respond to Di’s Share Your World prompt today.

Di, at Pensitivity101, is our host for Share Your World each week. Here are her questions for this week.

1. Will you be playing tricks on someone seeing as it’s also April Fool’s Day? Were you ever a victim of an April Fool’s prank?

No. I’m in no frame of mind to pull any April Fool’s Day shenanigans. As to the victim of a prank, one day I came home from work and my four-year-old son looked at me and said, “Dad, you have a refrigerator on your head.” Then he yelled, “April Fool” and thought it was the funniest thing ever.

2. Will it be a normal working day for you?

Well, I’m retired, so let’s just say that it will be normal retirement day.

3. If you have children, are they of school age on Easter break, or toddlers?

My children are both grown adults. My grandchildren are both toddlers and they are in pre-school today.

My Last Photo — March ‘24

Brian, aka Bushboy, posted his monthly Last on the Card prompt, where he asks us to…

  • Post the last photo from your camera’s SD card or the last photo from your phone taken in the month of March.
  • No editing — who cares if it is out of focus, not framed as you would like, or the subject matter didn’t cooperate?
  • No explanations needed — just the photo will do.
  • Create a pingback to Brian’s post or link in the comments.
  • Use the tags “The Last Photo” and #LastOnTheCard.”

I’m doing something a little different today. I’m featuring two photos, but only one was taken by me. The other one was taken by my wife, Mrs. Fandango, last night. She has a Pixel 8 Pro (Google’s smartphone). She was in our backyard with our dog while it was taking care of business, looked up at the western sky, and snapped this picture below, which I thought was share-worthy.

My last photo of the month was more down, literally. We had tons of rain this winter and I took this picture of a tree stump from an old, diseased pine tree we had removed a few years back. In case you can’t tell what you’re seeing, these are mushrooms growing out from between the bark of the tree stump. I thought it looked interesting.

A2Z Challenge — The Letter A

I am unofficially participating in this year’s A to Z Challenge. My theme this year is girlfriends.

A is for Alvis G.

Alvis G was my fourth-grade crush. She was so cute, tall with short red hair in a pixie cut, stunning green eyes, and a face full of freckles. Truth be told, even though we were in the same class, we hung out in different circles, and prior to the night of the Homecoming sock hop in the school’s cafeteria, we had barely exchanged two words.

Being the shy type, I had been watching from the sidelines up to that point and noticed that Alvis had been asked to dance by several boys, but at the end of each record, she returned to her place with the other girls.

About an hour into the sock hop, with the boys lined up on one side of the cafeteria and the girls lined up on the opposite side, the teacher who was spinning the records called for a Sadie Hawkins girls’ choice dance, and invited the girls to cross the cafeteria floor and pick a boy to dance with her.

At first I thought I was imagining it when it looked like Alvis was walking in my direction. But then she stopped right in front of me, held out her hand to me, and asked, “Can I have this dance?”

“You mean me?” I asked, dumbfounded. She responded by grabbing my hand and literally pulling onto the dance floor.

We danced together for every dance for the rest of the night, which was only an hour longer as the dance ended at 10:00. We talked about all kinds of things, laughed a lot, and then she hugged me, pecked me on the cheek, and said goodnight. I was in heaven, thinking about what my life with Alvis by my side was going to be like.

Reality hit me hard on Monday morning. I saw Alvis, smiled, waved at her, and started walking in her direction. She put up her hand to stop me, and I saw her holding hands with Frank, the class bully. Frank saw me and glared at me. Alvis silently mouthed, I’m sorry.
