Today we are supposed to write about “a song that makes you sad.”
When I was younger, I used to be sad when the weekend ended and it was Monday and I had to go back to work. And since today is Monday, I must be sad, right?
Not really. But still, those are the reasons — it’s Monday and Mondays sometimes make people sad — that I chose “Monday, Monday” by The Mamas & The Papas.
Of course, now I’m retired and Monday is pretty much like every other day. But as the song says,
Every other day, every other day
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
A-you can find me cryin’ all of the time
Actually, that’s not true. You can’t really find me crying all of the time whenever Monday comes. I cry at sad movies and every time I think about Donald Trump, but that’s a story for another day. Maybe Tuesday, Tuesday.

I love the Mamas and Papas! I have two songs that really can choke me up – a local band does a song called “Too Old To Cry” that is hard to hold back on and The Oak ridge Boys “Thank God For Kids” (for the song and because it was my Mom’s favorite song and I miss her).
