#writephoto — The Calming Clouds

339D1947-3C7F-4C84-B11E-DDE647BE625BDarren stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him. Concerned, his wife ran outside after him and found him standing there, hands on his hips, staring off into the sky.

“Darren, what’s wrong? she asked when she got to his side. She reached down and grabbed his hand. “What’s got you so upset?”

Darren continued to stare at the sky. He saw the sun shining through the gray clouds, illuminating the bare branches of the winter trees. After a moment he sighed and said, “I’m sorry, Liz, but I just get so damn angry every time I watch the news. The man took an oath of office in which he swore to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. But everything he does, ever word he utters, is detrimental to the country and its citizens and violates the oath he took when he became president. I find it relaxing to watch the slow movements of the clouds across the sky. I brings me peace.”

“Well, you deserve some peace and relaxation, that’s for sure,” Liz said. “And as to Trump and all of his rich, corpulent political sycophants, and corporate fat cats, their corrupt and despicable manifestations of amoral behavior will be judged appropriately by the court of history.”

“I hope you’re right, honey,” Darren said, “but in the meantime, I’m at peace just watching the clouds float by.

This political fantasy was written for Sue Vincent’s Thursday Photo Prompt. I also fit in these one-word prompts: Word of the Day Challenge (oath), Fandago’s One-Word Challenge (detrimental), Your Daily Word Prompt (relaxation), Ragtag Daily Prompt (corpulent), and Nova’s Daily Random Word (manifestation).

This Really Pisses Me Off

1D6295EF-CB38-47E0-B960-946569A6097CDonald Trump closed down the federal government over funding for his stupid border wall, affecting roughly 800,000 federal employees over Christmas, many of whom will remain on furlough without pay if the shutdown continues.

But Trump is having his New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago and he needs party tents for his private party at his private resort for his private guests who are paying up to $1,000 each to attend the president’s private ego-bash.

So who’s footing the bill for those tents? I am. So are you if you’re an American taxpayer. Yes, with much of the federal government grinding to a halt, you and I are paying at least $54,000 for Trump’s tents.

According to government spending data, Grimes Events & Party Tents Inc. of Delray Beach, Florida was paid $54,020 by the US Secret Service on December 19 for “TENT RENTAL FOR MAL.”

Hey, if I’m paying for his fucking tents, the least I should get is an invitation to the party, don’t you think? Of course, were I to have received an invitation, my RSVP would read, “Go fuck yourself, Donald.”

A Photo a Week Challenge — Eyes

I just came across this weekly photo challenge from blogger Nancy Merrill and this week’s challenge (or maybe it was last week’s challenge, but I just found it) is “eyes.”

The idea is to create a post for the challenge based upon the topic provided each week, in this case, eyes, and to share a picture or two of some of the eyes in our lives.

So here are the eyes of our beloved dog and our equally beloved cat.C899A937-C292-4BDB-A04E-D56EFF93B4C59D4DA16A-24F9-449B-A991-DD4D284CA374

Day 27 — Broken Heart

For today’s 30-Day Song Challenge we are asked for “a song that breaks your heart.”

There are so very many songs about broken hearts, but this one, “Piece of My Heart,” sung by Janis Joplin, seems to fit the prompt perfectly. It’s a song about a lovelorn woman so enraptured by her man that she’s willing to break off yet another piece of her heart if only he will take it.

But while it’s about breaking a heart, this song breaks my heart because of the tragic death of an extraordinary young talent at the tender age of 27. Such a shame, such a waste.
