Rivalries

I’m a big baseball fan and my two favorite teams are the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants.

I lived in the Boston area for about 20 years before moving to San Francisco 12 years ago. And as a baseball fan, one of my fantasies has been for the Red Sox, representing the American League, and the Giants, representing the National League, to meet up in the World Series. And this year, there is a possibility that I will realize my fantasy.

One of baseball’s biggest rivalries is between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.

Both teams ended the 2021 season a few days ago with 90-72 record and tonight they square off in the American League Wild Card Game. The winner will move on to face the AL East winner, the Tampa Bay Rays. The 2021 season will be over for the loser of tonight’s contest.

The other big baseball rivalry is between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Giants had the best record in baseball, 107-55, but the Dodgers were right behind them with a record of 106-56. Because the Giants won the AL West, the Dodgers will play the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow in the NL Wild Card game. The Dodgers are highly favored.

Right now I’d say it’s a long shot that the Red Sox and the Giants will meet in the World Series later this month. But one can dream, right?

From a non baseball follower, what do the record figures mean?

The first number is games won, the second number is games lost. The total number of games played are 162.

That’s a lot of games!!! That’s why I could understand the numbers. I would welcome a rest or is there no off-season anymore?

The off-season runs from November through March, although spring training starts in mid-February.

That makes it almost a game a day they play!!!! They must be fit but I guess they do a lot of sitting around.

A lot of people underestimate the athleticism required to be a professional baseball player.

Even big blokes can run the short burst between bases. I used to pitch for the school team for a season. Can’t use that arm for throwing very far now – rotator cuff wear and tear

I would love to go to see the Red Sox and Giants play in the World Series, but should it happen, I’ll probably just watch the games on TV.

Too bad the BLUE JAYS had to play out of town for most of their season. At home we ended the season with great results! Ah well…… Next Year WATCH OUT!!!!!
Good luck! I hope your wish comes true! I’m betting on Tampa Bay – duck and run 😋😊.

If the Series ends up being Tampa Bay and San Francisco, I’m going with San Francisco. And yes, the Blue Jays put up quite a fight over the past month.

Missouri is in the top tiers of both baseball and football. That’s fun… to me. It was also fun when we had the Rams… although it was a bit odd to have a team name — while my sons were in their formative years — and colors different from the years when I was growing up in Saint Louis (and performed at the old stadium). LA is standing out in football, and baseball too, as well. As is Florida. I’m hoping to attend a World Series game… only if the Cardinals are involved.

I have not kept up with much of any baseball this year… have they decided the teams yet? I myself being from the midwest lean towards the underdogs aka The Cubs. Ha, ha!

The Boston Red Sox are battling the Houston Astros in the best of seven and Houston is leading the series 3-2. The LA Dodgers are facing off against the Atlanta Braves in a best of seven and Atlanta is leading the series. 3-1. The winners of those two series will meet in the World Series.
