Sunday Photo Fiction — Perspectives

img_1259“These images are amazing,” Donna said.

“Yeah,” Liz said. “This one makes me want to partake in some wine after we leave the exhibit.”

“Sounds good,” Donna replied. “Some of these photos actually make me feel a bit dizzy.”

“Yes, these pictures are mind bending,” Liz said. “How do they do it?”

“It’s all in the way you hold the camera,” Donna said. “If you hold it so it’s not parallel with the ground, you can get it to look like everything is askew. Take this image, for example,” she said, pointing to another photograph on display.

“Oh my God,” Liz exclaimed. “How do people live in a building like that?”

“Ha! They don’t. Tilt your head to the right and you’ll see that the building is as it should be, but the street has a very steep grade,” Donna explained.

“Awesome,” Liz said. “It’s an optical illusion, right?”

“Yes. The eye is seeing something that looks impossible, but your mind tries to rationalze it,” Donna said. “So the building looks slanted rather than the street. Same with the wine in those glasses.”

“I get it now,” Liz said. “But if we partake in some wine right now, no doubt I’ll get it even more.”

“Let’s go partake, then,” Donna said.

I’m not sure more wine will help Liz. Nice job.

Great use of the supplementary photo to illustrate! And I, for one, would like to test this theory that drinking more wine might help with the illusion. 🙂

I went to the Wonder Spot nearby Wisconsin Dells before it closed in 2006 and it was very strange as the laws of natural gravity don’t seem to exist there, as you walk around in this house and you can’t stand up straight.

I thought with the title there would be an argument involved. Guess it was a false perspective on my part.
