WDP — Last Live Performance

Daily writing prompt
What was the last live performance you saw?

When we lived in San Francisco, we belonged to an organization, BroadwaySF. It would bring anywhere from six to eight Broadway shows (plays and musicals) each season to San Francisco. As subscribers, we were guaranteed seats and we regularly purchased six tickets for each show.

The last one we saw was the musical “Anastasia” in September 2019.

We also used to enjoy going to a lot of local live performances by artists we loved, including Billy Joel, Jackson Brown, Don Henley, Peter Frampton, Sting, Steely Dan, and even Randy Rainbow.

We didn’t renew our BroadwaySF membership for the 2020 season because we knew we’d be moving to the East Bay in early 2020, but still planned on going into the city to see at least some of the performances.

And then the pandemic hit, and everything shut down, including BroadwaySF. I believe it has since started sponsoring live performances again, but we are done with going to live venues, even outdoor ones, because people are crowded in. And despite what everyone says, people are still contracting COVID.

So going to live performances, be they shows or music concerts, are over for us, I’m sad to say.

I recently went to a small concert in LA, and I was super squished, very uncomfortable (I wore a mask, but most people did not). I’ll stick with outdoor ones from now on!

That is sad for you not being able to go to any more live performances!

He may have declined a little but his energy was amazing. He performed three hours without a break. When his band took their break, he played solo.

I’ve not been to a concert, but about 2007 me and my daughter went to see Equus, with Daniel Radcliffe as the main character, along with his uncle in Harry Potter. We went because we both liked to watch Harry Potter. I got told off by ”Uncle Vernon” because I failed to turn my phone off in time.

I’m gearing up to get the next booster for COVID — even though I just got OVER COVID. It isn’t the lethal ailment it was, but it’s still nasty and exhausting. We still aren’t sure where it came from, but it was either Owen or Arthur, both of whom still work out in the world. They think they picked it up when they went out for dinner for the first time in a year and picked it up in the restaurant. That would certainly fit.

It is definitely going around and it will never be gone. I hope they find a way to create an annual vaccine — like the flu vaccine. Maybe bundle the two together into one shot every fall. I can cope with one vaccination a year, but that endless stream of vaccinations was rough because I was one of the people who had a serious reaction to the Moderna vaccine.

I so wanted to watch Anastasia live when they had a stop here. Sadly, they only performed at the capital which is quite far from here and it would’ve been very expensive as I had to get plane tickets and a place to stay while there. The last live performance I saw may have been back in 2017 or 2018

I have been to a couple of shows since Covid risks are reduced with the vaccines. I think I have been pretty lucky. Problem now is no good shows in the area for awhile. There is on coming in December that could be good though – Manheim Steamroller’s Christmas show.
