Fandango’s Provocative Question #184

FPQ

Welcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question. Each week I will pose what I think is a provocative question for your consideration.

By provocative, I don’t mean a question that will cause annoyance or anger. Nor do I mean a question intended to arouse sexual desire or interest.

What I do mean is a question that is likely to get you to think, to be creative, and to provoke a response. Hopefully a positive response.

This week’s provocative question occurred to me because I just returned from a family vacation, the first one we have taken as a family (i.e., not just me and my wife) since 2017. It was great to get away, and I really enjoyed it. But I wouldn’t rate it as one of the best vacations I’ve ever had.

So, my question this week is simply:

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

If you choose to participate, write a post with your response to the question. Once you are done, tag your post with #FPQ and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Or you can simply include a link to your post in the comments. But remember to check to confirm that your pingback or your link shows up in the comments.

Travelling to US and skiing three widely separated snowfields.
Why so good? I did it all by myself. And nothing went wrong. Yay…….

I’ve been to Hawaii twice, of course spending time on two different islands. My favorite vacation was the second of these two, because it made my children happy. The first was my honeymoon. Having no children didn’t make us freer, it made my husband more likely to say yes to a timeshare spiel so that we wasted half a day in a stupid conference room listening to a pitch.

I do remember from the first time seeing the manner in which an art showing (by Yoko Ono) was done there; entered straight from the street. This question, along with my answer to another of your prompts, has reminded me of buying jasmine fragrance and gardenia fragrance then (both simply oils or absolutes I’m sure). Today, I was motivated to order a few perfumes online.

Hm… now I recall another vacation that made my children happy. We went to Panama Beach, Florida; well worth doing. I love that we in the US have this inexpensive place to go frolic. We traveled bia cars with my husband’s brother and family (so, my sister-in-law and niece and nephew). All we needed were clean quarters and a clean beach. There were also shops and rides.

We did take our kids to Florida another time, to Palm Island. This was just us, in more extensive accommodations for my oldest son’s thirteenth birthday. There was only one restaurant, and a satisfying one at that, in this place. A wonderful detail was hatching sea turtles and pleasant people employed to inform. There was a nighttime fireside storyteller-singer, as well.

This is a tough one because we’ve enjoyed every vacation we’ve ever taken. There were a few that had issues with weather or with the place we were staying, but even those we enjoyed anyway. The best? That’s a tough call!

Hitchhiking through Europe in my twenties. A lot of fun stories to tell. Great adventure.
That vacation is one of the things that make me a little more cool in eyes of my teenagers.

To this point, probably my honeymoon in Nashville. BUT I am in the early stages of planning a train travel escape in the spring hopefully, and I think that will rank right up there.
