Sadje’s Sunday Poser — Funny You Should Ask

Today’s Sunday Poser from Sadje asks…

Do you re-share your older posts regularly?

Sadje then pointed out that “Fandango [that’s me] has a Friday Flashback prompt where he asks us to share a post written on the same date in the past.” Thanks for the shout-out, Sadje.

Back in 2019, on a whim, I looked through some of my old blog posts on this blog and on a few older blogs that are no longer online. I was struck by how I didn’t remember writing many of them. Even some of the more recent ones. And some of them, I thought, were quite good.

That’s how the idea hatched in my head to re-share these older posts. And so, I published my first Fandango’s Friday Flashback post with this opening line, “Time for something new…for me, anyway. Each Friday I will publish a post I wrote on this exact date in a previous year.”

If you want to read that inaugural, May 31, 2019 Friday Flashback post, click here.

So, to answer Sadje’s question, yes, I regularly — every Friday — re-share an older post of mine and have been doing so for three years and five months. Please feel free to join in. It’s fun.

Cellpic Sunday — 10/30/22

John Steiner, the blogger behind Journeys With Johnbo, has this prompt he calls Cellpic Sunday in which he asks us to post a photo that was taken with a cellphone, tablet, or another mobile device. I thought this might be fun so I decided to join in.

This photo below was taken with my iPhone yesterday. I was with our dog in the backyard when she spotted a praying mantis on our back deck. Most praying mantises I’ve seen are green, but this one was light brown. My dog was curious and started sniffing the bug, which caused it to scurry over to some tall grasses next to the deck. Right before I snapped this picture, the mantis was looking right at me with worried eyes, but by the time I took the snapshot, my dog, whose nose was poking into the grasses on my left, caught the mantis’ attention, so his eyes are focused on my dog and not on me or my camera. Damn. An instant too late. Still, I thought it was an interesting picture to share.

If you wish to participate in this fun cellphone photo prompt, please click on the link to John’s post at the top of my post to see his photo and to read his instructions.

Song Lyric Sunday — Hold, Thrill, Kiss

For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday, Jim Adams has asked us to feature a song that contains lyrics of Embrace, Hug, or Kiss. I decided to feature an oldie-goldie, “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” recoded by Mel Carter.

“Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” was written by Harry Noble and originally performed by Karen Chandler in 1952. It has been re-recorded several times since then, the most notable cover being by Mel Carter in 1965. Gloria Estefan also recorded it in 1994. Carter’s version spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 8, while reaching number 1 on Billboard’s Easy Listening chart.

This song is about a guy in the throes of his first real romance. Everyone tells the infatuated singer not to get carried away by his emotions but he ignores them, begging his girl with the title refrain.

Carter was initially skeptical about recording the love song. When he first heard it he hated it, but his producer, Phil Schaff, persuaded Carter to record it, and it winded up becoming Mel Carter’s signature song.

Here are the lyrics to “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me.”

Hold me, hold me
And never let me go until you've told me, told me
What I want to know and then just hold me, hold me
Make me tell you I'm in love with you

Thrill me (thrill me), thrill me (thrill me)
Walk me down the lane where shadows
Will be (will be) will be (will be)
Hiding lovers just the same as we'll be, we'll be
When you make me tell you I love you

They told me "Be sensible with your new love"
"Don't be fooled, thinking this is the last you'll find"
But they never stood in the dark with you, love
When you take me in your arms
And drive me slowly out of my mind

Kiss me (kiss me), kiss me (kiss me)
And when you do, I'll know that you
Will miss me (miss me), miss me (miss me)
If we ever say "Adieu", so kiss me, kiss me
Make me tell you I'm in love with you

(Kiss me) Kiss me, (kiss me) kiss me
When you do, I'll know that you will
Miss me (miss me), miss me (miss me)
If we ever say "Adieu" so kiss me, kiss me
Make me tell you I'm in love with you

(Hold me, thrill me)
Never, never, never let me go (Hold me, thrill me)
never, never, never let me go (Hold me, thrill me)
never, never, never let me go

And for those of you who are interested, here’s Gloria Estefan’s cover of the song.

FOWC with Fandango — Summarize

FOWC

It’s October 30, 2022. Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.).

Today’s word is “summarize.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. Show them some love.
