I, along with nearly 36 million other Americans, suffer from a malady called tinnitus. Tinnitus is a ringing, swishing, buzzing, or other type of noise that seems to originate in the ear or head. My tinnitus is a 24/7 affliction; it never eases up for even a single second. It’s right there inside my head and it cannot be snuffed out or quieted.
I first noticed the ringing in my ears when I was about 40. At first, the sound was intermittent. It would come and go. But then, by the time I reached 50, this continuous, never-ending ringing in both ears became my constant companion.
Tinnitus can be quite annoying to those of us who suffer from it, especially since we are the only ones who can hear the sound. In most cases, the exact cause of tinnitus is never found. And worse, there is no known cure. The many doctors I’ve seen about it have all given me the same advice: learn to live with it.
And that means that I will never hear the sound of silence ever again.
Written for today’s Just Jot It January prompt from Linda G. Hill. Today’s word is “silence,” as suggested by Willow over at Willowdot21.
That sucks but I did see this at the bottom of your post:

I have ringing sound in my ears but it happens occasionally. I’m afraid that it might soon aggravate.

Hopefully it won’t become YOUR constant companion, too.

I thought that you might do Simon and Garfunkel Sound Of Silence, but I guess one per day is enough.

Hubby and I both have it, but at different pitches. It’s a pain.

Well, at least it’s something you and your spouse can share! Too bad you can’t harmonize your pitches. 🤪

I’ve had it since a head injury as a kid – and it’s more like cathedral bells, tubular bells, pounding horses, roaring ocean storms, but I can still ‘feel’ silence.
Some people say you can use a form of meditation to ‘ease’ the sounds. Good luck; it has lessened the symptoms for me (it used to wake me up!) and I’ll keep doing it (and I’ll check out that link too).

Mine is like a high-pitched electrical tone, as if I’m always standing next to high tension wires.

Yes, that one I get during a quiet day, just a low-level screech/squawk like a cocky in the distance who just won’t shut up! I don’t know what high tension wires sound like – never heard them, even standing directly below the box-thingy’s up there.

Mine is like the sound of a million crickets chirping on a hot summer’s night.

Now that would drive me nutso, especially if they were in cicada decibels!

I want to like your post but I cannot like that you have to go through tinnitus. My father in law is affected as well, a result of many years as a phone installer where listening to sounds was part of the job. Hopefully one day technology will create a breakthrough in treatment

I hope so, too. I’d love to not hear that ringing in my ears.
