It had been decades since I last spoke with her, so when I saw her name on Facebook, I spontaneously decided to poke her. I don’t know where I came up with the confidence to do that. After all, the last time I saw her, it wasn’t under the best of circumstances.
I honestly didn’t think she respond to my poke. I figured the odds of hearing from her were about the same as an atheist like being admitted to Kingdom Come. But less than a minute after poked her, she sent me a smile emoji on my Facebook page. I could barely breathe when I saw it show up.
I immediately called her and she answered the call. When I heard her voice, even though we hadn’t spoken in years, I was was elated that I might, just might, have a second chance, an opportunity to rekindle something that had been doused decades ago.
Written for today’s JusJoJan prompt from Linda G. Hill, which was to “find a word with ‘poke’ in it or use the word ‘poke’ any way you’d like.” Also written for these daily prompts: Your Daily Word Prompt (confidence), Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (best), Daily Addictions (think), Word of the Day Challenge (kingdom), The Daily Spur (smile), and Ragtag Daily Prompt (breathe).
Skillful use of all the prompts.
