Who Won The Week — 06/12/22

The idea behind Who Won the Week is to give you the opportunity to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.

At the risk of being predictable, my Who Won the Week designation this week goes to the House Select Committee that is investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump’s MAGA-maniacis. The committee held the first of its public, televised hearings this past Thursday evening and it was must see TV.

Thursday’s hearing was the first in a series this month that will highlight the findings of the panel’s investigation, which included interviews with more than 1,000 people about how Trump and his team tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election on multiple fronts.

The committee played a compilation of some of the most disturbing footage from the January 6 attack. It showed some never-before seen material, including a birds-eye view footage from security cameras that showed the enormous pro-Trump mob as it started swarming the Capitol grounds.

The footage also showed how the crowd took its cues directly from Trump, with one rioter reading a Trump tweet on a megaphone for the other rioters to hear. In that tweet, Trump criticized Pence for announcing that he would not overturn the results of the 2020 election while presiding over the joint session of Congress to certify Joe Biden’s win.

Supposedly 19 million people watched the prime time hearing on Thursday night and I can’t imagine how anyone watching could not have been moved and could have any remaining doubts whatsoever about the fact that Trump was behind a well-planned, organized, orchestrated, and deliberate attempt to interfere with the peaceful transition of power in the United States and to instigate what amounted to a seditious insurrection.

Unfortunately, Fox News decided to not cover the live hearing, and it’s Fox News viewers who really needed to watch it.

What about you? Who (or what) do you think won the week?

If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.

My favorite part was when Liz Cheney said, “There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone”, that really made me happy.

They already tried and failed to convict Trump, so what do you think they hoper to achieve by having these hearings?

Maybe to prevent him from running for president again at least, or going to jail at best.

But, as I say, he is already acquitted. So how did they seriously hope to achieve any of that? The bottom line is that the Dems are more interested in vengeance against Trump than they are in running the country.

I respectfully disagree. They are trying to save what is left of our democracy, which Trump and his Republican sycophants have all but destroyed.

By trying to do something that already failed? Trump was acquitted, remember, and there is no way that the current composition of the Senate will reverse that. First rule of politics – you fight the fights you can win.

There’s also the notion of “the more you know.” These hearings are unearthing even more evidence of crimes and seditious activities in an effort to overthrow a free and fair election and to instigate an attempted insurrection. The consequences are not in the hands of the Senate, but in the Justice department to choose whether or not to criminally charge and prosecute those responsible. And all evidence unearthed by the House Select Committee suggested that charges should be levied and prosecutions pursued.

Can I make a prediction? At the end of the hearings, people will come down on exactly the same side as at the start of the hearings. It’s like everything – we accept evidence which supports our view, and ignore evidence which contradicts our view. Call me a cynic 🙂

I would have been shocked it this were NOT your choice. I don’t know how much good it will do, but it’s something. We need SOMETHING.

Maybe Justice Thomas and his wife are the winners. Liz Cheney insisted on not including a focus on the illegal political behavior of Jinny and a participant on the High Court.

Liz Cheney is getting a lot of kudos for her opening statement on Thursday night, but she’s still a very conservative Republican who votes with the rest of the party on most issues.

I did like that Ivanka said she believed the attorney general of the day, Bill Barr (even though he’s another freekazoid corrupt-right-winger but corrupt for the “conservative” interests, or oligarchs, rather than for a king or one oligarch gone off the rails); respected him over her dad.

At the risk of sounding gloating, I’d like to thank the Australian public health system, who got my hubby in quick smart for an operation at no charge, discharged him, called for follow up, and when I called as something seemed wrong, listened to me and sent a nurse round to check on him

So glad that I don’t follow some people anymore, lol. I agree with that it’s Fox viewers who really need to see it. Maybe it’ll get out there enough for them to hear it.

A close second would be whoever called 911 on that U-Haul full of Nazis in Idaho!
