My Last Photo — April ‘24

Brian, aka Bushboy, posted his monthly Last on the Card prompt, where he asks us to…

  • Post the last photo from your camera’s SD card or the last photo from your phone taken in the month of April.
  • No editing — who cares if it is out of focus, not framed as you would like, or the subject matter didn’t cooperate?
  • No explanations needed — just the photo will do.
  • Create a pingback to Brian’s post or link in the comments.
  • Use the tags “The Last Photo” and #LastOnTheCard.”

I’ve got two things to share with you today. The first is a photograph I took yesterday morning with my iPhone 15 Pro Max of our backyard. Nothing special other than me wanting to show off our backyard. The photo is looking toward the WSW and that’s our fire pit in the middle of the photo. I love our backyard.

The second item is something I’ve never posted on Brian’s Last on the Card before. The evening of the 29th I was walking around and checking out a few of the now close to a dozen and a half tarantula spider holes dotting the back end of our backyard where the ground is mostly mulch-covered when I came across a brave tarantula who seemed to be doing housekeeping around his or her spidey hole. As quietly as I could so as not to spook it, I turned on my iPhone’s video capture function, zoomed in to about 8x, and took this 21-second video. I hope you like it and it doesn’t give you nightmares.

Interesting challenge to be a part of. I might consider it in those times where I have a photo I can share that does not spoil anything about how I look or where I live.

That’s fabulous Fandango. I’ll take a Last Video if they are wonderful nature videos.
    Thanks for joining in 😀

Thanks, Brian. Seems like by the time tarantula mating season comes around in late August, I’m going to have a backyard full of horny males roaming around in search of a perfect, 8-legged, 8-eyed, hairy beauty.

Thankfully they are not industrious here in the North of Scotland! 🙂

Wow, truly awesome backyard, and I liked the nature video, too, I am sure your arachnid tenants keep a lot of buggy pests at bay.

I know. They mostly stay deep inside their spidey holes in the daylight hours.

One reason I will not be moving to California anytime soon… those furry long legged critters. Just not my thing! Eww! 😱

Lovely backyard! Worth showing off. I took a deep breath, then watched the video. Spiders are still nightmare fuel for me, though I handle tarantulas a little better. But around 18 of them! Not sure I could do that. Kudos to you!

You have an awesome outdoor area although I dunno about your Tarantula guests. I’m not arachnophobic but I’m wary of venomous ones.

Actually, tarantulas are very docile creatures and they can bite when threatened. While their bites can be very painful, and they do deliver venom when they bite, their bite delivers only mild venom that is too weak to affect humans.

I guess that’s the thing with a lot of critters, if they don’t feel threatened they won’t bite. I’ve held Bees in my hand & never been stung. Same with Huntsmen Spiders, they can bite & are mildly venomous but generally won’t. We get them around here & I often pick them up & let them crawl on my arms. They feel so soft & silky.
