In her January 28 Sunday Poser prompt, Sadje asked about Artificial Intelligence generated text. One of her questions was “Have you tried out the AI assistant in WP?”
My first reaction to that question was, “WordPress has an AI Assistant? Who knew?” I blog exclusively from my iPhone and the Jetpack iPhone app on iOS does not have an AI Assistant block. So I did something I rarely do. I opened up wordpress.com on my Safari browser on my iPhone. Once there, I decided to create a new post using the block editor (because on the iOS app, the block editor is all that’s available).
When I went to create a new post, I was asked to select the block I wanted to start my new post with. I tapped the plus sign and it gave me a bunch of commonly used blocks, but there was no AI Assistant block shown. So I went to the search box and typed “AI Assistant” in it. Lo and behold, here’s what I saw:

So I selected the AI Assistant block and typed this in it:
“Write about using AI for blog posts.”
What appears below is how the WordPress AI Assistant responded to that question I encourage you to read the response and then to share your thoughts in the comments.
What appears below is how the WordPress Al Assistant responded to that question I encourage you to read the response and then to share your thoughts in the comments.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the way blog posts are created and optimized. By leveraging AI tools, bloggers can streamline their writing process, enhance the quality of their content, and improve their overall efficiency.
Al-powered tools can assist with various aspects of blog post creation, from generating topic ideas and conducting research to optimizing content for search engines. For instance, Al can analyze data to identify trending topics and audience interests, helping bloggers choose compelling and relevant subjects to write about.
Moreover, Al can aid in content creation by generating outlines, suggesting relevant sources, and even offering language and style recommendations. This can significantly expedite the writing process while maintaining high standards of quality.
Another key advantage of using Al for blog posts is the ability to optimize content for search engines. Al tools can analyze keywords, suggest relevant terms, and help ensure that blog posts are structured in a way that improves their search engine ranking and visibility.
Overall, Al is transforming the blog writing process, providing writers with invaluable support in generating engaging content, conducting research, and optimizing posts for maximum impact.
So what do you think? Now that you know about the WordPress AI Assistant, do you think you’ll use it?
I did experiment with the AI Editor, but it was so far removed from my habitual writing style that I didn’t use it, and don’t intend to use it soon.
I can also tell – usually – when comments have been constructed using AI and move them to spam!

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I think it can be evident when someone posts something that doesn’t at all resemble the writer’s typical style that it has been generated by AI. I’m hoping most bloggers will feel the same way you do.

Not me! But it was a good article

To be honest, though AI writes in great detail, I ALWAYS find the writing is boring and devoid of personality, which I guess may be because personality general requires a human.

Yes, I agree. And I think it’s pretty easy to tell the difference.

I was curious enough to use it to analyse a post I had written a couple of times. It made suggestions about the content which I tried to follow. Maybe it improved the post. I included more background information which I may not have done otherwise.
I don’t mind that sort of help but I don’t really want AI generated content because I tend to write in a conversational way which the WP AI assistant can’t reproduce. In other words it doesn’t sound like me. Possibly if I used it often it might learn that.
I will continue to play with it out of interest but I won’t use it to create posts for me. I enjoy writing so why would I want an app that does it for me?

I have the Grammarly keyboard on my iPhone and if I highlight some text, say a paragraph, it will give me an opportunity to “improve” it. I have occasionally accepted its suggested improvements, but I mostly keep my original paragraph.

Thanks for posting this Fandango as it seems like I could be able to use this at certain times. For instance, tonight I have to write something on Hip Hop which is a genre that I don’t enjoy, so I went to the Block Editor and opened up a new post and went to the AI and asked it questions and although I will edit what it gave me, it got me off to a good start.

Good. I’m glad you found it helpful.

Ugh. Squeezebox. Seems to dilute or outright eliminate any ‘outside the box’ content.

In answer to the last question: no. The text it produced above seems to me to basically be ad copy. The only AI thing I might use is to have it find tag words for something I wrote.

No. It is factual, and written well. There is no humanity in the paragraphs.

Nope. No emo, no connection, no sense of personal enrichment. I prefer the odd-sod speakings of real people, even if it’s not my cuppa tea.

Nope, not for me; l do use Grammarly – for my grammar, but at times, it offers what it thinks is a correction, and l think, er, no, that’s different from how l would speak, let alone write it.
So, AI personal content creation can take a swinging leap into the abyss. However, l am savvy enough in written language, but my punctuation could be better sometimes. Yet, we see books published on Amazon that have been written using AI by people who should have used something to proofread for them…
I was surprised to read from another commenter that people use AI to create comments. Really? Is the world becoming so lazy that they need to have AI write a comment? That baffles me.

I use Grammarly and probably agree with about half of its suggestions. Yes, it was mentioned that some use AI for comments, but those might be comments from spammers! I don’t think any legit commenters use AI to generate their comments.

Oh yes spammers, the delight of we bloggers ……. not! Hahaha.

I have had very, very limited experienc AII, specifically ChatGPT. I think I may have used more presses AI tool to write a description for one of my blog posts.
For me, the whole point of blogging is the act of writing itself. Being creative, bending my brain to mine from the depths of life vocabulary, and push the lyrics of my creativity to put an image in my reader mind.
I could see using AI for some general information, common knowledge, typewriting; like a brief history of the Civil War, for instance. If we depend too much on AI, we’re not really writing anymore, are we?

I agree. Maybe AI could provide facts or other info for the writer to incorporate into a post, but why blog if you don’t enjoy setting your imagination free and letting your creative juices flow?

Perhaps as an experiment of sorts

I write for a release or outlet quite often and AI would not offer that. I also write for connections to others in one way or another, for that you need human emotions and AI certainly doesn’t have that.

I don’t like it as a writing tool. It is, however, really useful for photographic and film work.

I tried it once and regretted it immediately. I’ve written several posts about AI and how I hate the fact that more people are using it instead of thinking and using their brain. As a blogging tool, it’s the worst! Even if it’s kinda cool.

I agree. Blogging is a forum for personal expression. AI-generated text is not very personal.
