Weekend Writing Prompt — The Best-Laid Plans

Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, wrote, “The best-laid schemes of mice and men go oft awry.” I am a victim of that this Memorial Day weekend. What was supposed to be a sunny and pleasant Saturday is, instead, cool and drizzly. And conjunctivitis has gotten to my son and his family, resulting in a pause in my Memorial Day weekend plans.

(Exactly 61 words)

Written for Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt, where the challenge is “pause” in exactly 61 words.

It was a shock to wake up to drizzle! But it could be worse and is … many places.

My physical therapy, on Monday, is postponed until Tuesday… amounts to my recognition of Memorial Day this year. But, perhaps I’ll visit my son in his college town Monday instead of on Wednesday (as I visited last Wednesday). Or maybe we’ll end up hanging out with our neighbors. I have a fun video to show them from driving home a couple days ago partly in a swarm of motorcycles. No, I don’t want to show my sons. So as not to encourage any of them to buy such items again.

I’m hoping that by tomorrow everyone will be well enough to come over.

I have learned it doesn’t matter what day you celebrate a holiday as long as you are with friends and family. I hope everyone is healthy again soon.
