Thursday Inspiration — Cooking with Gas

For this week’s Thursday Inspiration prompt, Jim Adams has asked us to write a post using the word “cook.”

Ever since I got married almost 46 years ago, my wife has been the chief cook — and I’ve been the bottle washer, so to speak. She is a very good cook and I am fairly confident that had I not married her, I’d be dead my now.

My pre-marriage bachelor diet was primarily fast food, fried food, and beer. But Mrs. Fandango began preparing healthy, nutritious, delicious meals. She made sure I got a balanced diet with veggies and fruits and food that was mostly organic.

One of her requirements wherever we lived was that our home had to have a gas range, rather than an electric cooktop. She felt that she could cook with much more precision with gas than with electricity. And since she took pride in preparing her meals and I loved eating her meals, I made sure to accommodate her gas range demand.

In fact, she loves cooking with gas so much that this is one of her favorite rap songs.

Now I don’t want you to think that my wife prepares everything I eat. I make my own cold cereal breakfasts and when we have eggs, I am often the one who cooks them. And I’m also the outdoor grill master, grilling hod dogs, burgers, steaks, and even seafood to perfection.

So I’m not totally helpless in the kitchen.

I always had a gas stove / oven till I moved to Florida, and I do enjoy that better than electric. I had no idea that Mrs. Fandango enjoyed Rap music.

I love everything about this post. That rap video is so smooth.😂 What a blessing to have been married as long as you have. I’m a hopeless romantic and I would have loved to be able to say I was married for fifty years, as my grandparents were. I probably will never have that now, unless I get married today and live to be at least 87.😅 It’s okay to be the one who doesn’t cook so much. I don’t have an extensive or exceptional ouvre in the kitchen, but I, too, can make eggs and cereal. And my kids say my Kraft macaroni and cheese is the best.😇 My stove is electric though. Boo. We want to see Mrs. Fandango do her own cover of “Cookin’ With Gas” please.❤️

Our reason for NOT using gas isn’t because I don’t totally agree that a good natural gas stove is much better than electric. But since we had a couple of towns blow up — it was quite a sight to see, lemme tellya — because the gas company wasn’t maintaining the gas lines and HADN’T been maintaining them for years, I decided I’d cope with electricity. So far, at least Natl. Grid’s failure to maintain their equipment hasn’t blown any towns off the map.

That is always a concert. And there have been a few neighborhoods in NorCal that have had gas line explosions since we first arrived here 14 years ago.
