Post-Facts Journalism

I was just reading a breaking news story in the newspaper that set me off in a rage.

You would think that a respectable publication would present the facts and not run off half-cocked in order to sully the reputation of an honorable man.

The facts don’t at all jibe with the contents of the article and it’s absolutely stunning that the writers would advance what is a completely bullshit conspiracy theory.

How are we, the public, supposed to construe the truth when lazy or incompetent “journalists” either don’t want to take the time or just don’t care to dig deep and search for it?

It’s just a sad reality in our world today that facts and truth don’t seem to matter anymore.

Written for these daily prompts: Ragtag Daily Prompt (breaking news), My Vivid Blog (story/advance), Word of the Day Challenge (newspaper/present), The Daily Spur (rage/stunning), Fandango’s One Word Challenge (sully/jibe), and Your Daily Word Prompt (construe/search).

It is a sign of the times. News rooms shutting down and those that hang on unable to afford quality journalists instead hire low rent writers to make up shit that sells. The 4th estate is in shambles and with it our democracies.

      I wish I could disagree, but I can’t.

Your photo for the post truly said it all, and all the papers are owned by vulture capitalists who are there to extract all the wealth in a paper, and then so “sadly” have to close it down after rounds of layoffs, cuts in quality, and losses in revenue as involved readers flee for better outlets.

I know. I’m still a hold out and get the daily paper delivered because I like to read it while sipping my first cup of coffee each morning. But the difference in quality and content from what it used to be is readily apparent.

Sad but true and people tend to believe it, that’s the scary thing.

I don’t think there’s anymore good journalist. They do just what that picture says they do.
