WDYS — The Last Hobbit House

This very special home, Bag End, in Hobbiton in The Shire was built by Bilbo Baggins in the Third Age of the Middle Earth. It was from here where he and the fellowship of travelers set off on their great adventure and then later, when Frodo Baggins, Bilbo’s nephew’s returned after his successful defeat of Sauron at the Battle of the Morannon.

Unfortunately, Frodo could never settle down, and eventually left to go to the west for the Undying Lands, never to return to Bag End. Eventually the home was left to Samwise Gamgee and, up until recently has been owned and cared for by Samwise’s descendants.

But after the last remaining Gamgee family member passed on in the spring, this unique home, the last remaining Hobbit House, is on the market for the very first time ever. And considering its history and tradition here in Hobbiton, the asking price for this well-cared for property is a steal.

Offers on Bag End will be accepted until noon on Wednesday and the winning offer will be announced on noon the next day.

Blogging Insights — Let Her Scream

For this week’s Blogging Insights prompt, Dr. Tanya has given us a quote about writing and asked us for our reactions to the quote.

This week’s quote is from none other than Mark Twain.

“Don’t say the old lady screamed. Bring her on and let her scream.”

I agree.

Share Your World — 07/31/2023

Share Your World

Di, at Pensitivity101, is our host for Share Your World each week. Here are her SYW questions for this very last day of July.

1. Expensive or sentimental, what is priceless to you?

I hate to be a stickler, but doesn’t the word “expensive” indicate that whatever we’re taking about is not priceless? After all, if something is expensive, it has a price. And one that has been characterized as being high (i.e., expensive). So, given that logic, the only logical answer can be sentimental that can be priceless.

2. What do you consider to be ‘a quiet night in’?

At our age, every night is a “quiet night in.” It usually consists of eating a dinner my wife and/or I cooked (or possibly something that DoorDash delivered), and then binge-watching some TV show, like right now we are binge-watching “Vera,” a British detective series. We are currently at season 9 of 13, I think. Then at 9:00 we take the dog out for her last walk of the day, although since I busted my hip in January, my wife has been doing that solo. I hope to be able to join her again starting in September.

3. Do you believe in soulmates?

I believe in timing. What I mean by that is the timing has to be right for a person to be receptive to the idea of finding a soulmate. Once receptive, the person you’re with at the time may turn out to be your soulmate. That’s how it was for me, anyway.

Others may argue that it is once you actually meet your soulmate that you become receptive to the idea of soulmates. Maybe it’s a chicken and egg situation.

4. Can you dance? (for example: old time, disco, jive)

I used to be a decent dancer back in the day. Nothing fancy, but passable. Now, and until my hip is back to 100% (whenever or if that might be), I don’t even try dancing.

Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge #230

Welcome to Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge. Each week I will be posting a photo I grab off the internet and challenging bloggers to write a flash fiction piece or a poem inspired by the photo. There are no style or word limits.

The image below is from AI-ART.

For the visually challenged writer, the image shows a man walking with his dog on a country road on a foggy night.

If this week’s image inspires you and you wish to participate, please write your post, use the tag #FFFC, and link back to this post. I hope it will generate some great posts.

FOWC with Fandango — Pump

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.).

Today’s word is “pump.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. Show them some love.
