WDP — Biden vs Trump 2024

What makes you nervous?

Joe Biden will be almost 82 on Election Day 2024. Donald Trump will be 78. Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States a while back and Joe Biden just announced that he intends to run for re-election earlier today.

Two very old white men. One a middle of the road Democrat and the other an unhinged, king-wannabe egomaniac who should be in jail. Some choice if each wins their respective party’s nomination, huh? And that makes me nervous.

Will Biden win the Democratic nomination? Probably, unless he kicks the bucket in the next 12 months or gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Will Trump win the Republican nomination, setting up a replay of the 2020 election? I dunno. Does he have enough MAGA-maniacs to earn him the nomination? Perhaps. But another king-wannabe who is slightly less unhinged and significantly younger than Trump is the ultra conservative Florida governor, Ron DeSantis. And he might gain enough support from conservative Republicans who are tired of Trump’s antics, to win the nomination.

I think (read: hope) that if it’s Biden versus Trump for the general election, Biden will win again. But if I’m wrong, and Trump wins the Presidency and the Republicans control Congress, then I’d be worried (i.e., nervous) about the survival of democracy in America.

But what if DeSantis wins the GOP nomination? I think he would have a better chance of beating Biden in the general election than would Trump. And if DeSantis wins and Republicans control Congress, I’d be worried (i.e., nervous) about the survival of democracy in America.

So, to directly answer today’s Daily Prompt question, I am nervous about the survival of democracy in America.

I’ll take Biden over either of the other doofuses any day. Biden needs to live long enough and be coherent enough to get through the elections, and then VEEP Harris is in the wings if something happens. She has the skills and the gumption and I think she would make a fabulous POTUS.

He could be a dark horse, but maybe in 2028 if we still have a country by then.

Sac Bee had an article I think back in November about Gavin running for President in 28. He said that he has no interest in running. However, I have a hinkling that his interests are being swayed as we write. I lost some respect for him because he is our States parent and a parent should lead by example. Unfortunately the dinner party ruined a bit of his credibility for me. That set aside though, he runs the 3rd largest economy in the World..not nation..the World, so is he qualified to run this nation?? Hell yes!! I’m an independent and would back him!

The dinner was a low point for my view of him, but it has gone up since…

We better hope it is Trump that wins the Republican nomination as Ron DeSantis has repeatedly voted make deep cuts to Social Security and to privatize Medicare.

Its insane that an 82 year old man would even want to be working at that age, as Mrs T said tonight, “why don’t they just retire, don’t they want to retire?”

I thought that Biden was a bit too old the first time around but you better hope that he wins because none of the alternatives are pretty.

79 and 82. For fuck’s sake. You guys have got about 330 million to choose from, and that’s the best you can come up with???

My generation have had enough turns at fucking stuff up already. Do you really want to see how we perform as geriatrics?
Forget the wisdom of age. We are all a bunch of doddering old fools who haven’t changed our opinion in the last half century. The only hope, if there is any, is to be found within the wisdom of youth. It’s certainly worth a try, anyway.

We all know that young women are much smarter than old men. That’s why we’re so terrified of them. Haven’t you got a couple of those?

We do have quite a few, but, you know, they’re women.

I understand. And probably educated women, too. Even the blonde ones. Absolutely insufferable.

I stopped watching the news for mental health reasons, I thought that Harris woman was going to put her name in? Are there literally no other candidates other than old white men? Didn’t Trump get indicted? I have so many questions

I look at it this way – Biden is a delegator and unlike Trump does seem to know how to hire and keep the loyalty of good people.

They’ve turned a corner on the questioning of — or putting feelers out per —Kamala being on the ticket. Mainstream (msnbc for example) news is speaking very positively of her in an overt manner (while I haven’t heard from Maher yet). Last night was the dinner for White House correspondents and so forth. And the turn had occurred a couple days prior.

Also, there was a lot of talk about journalism not being a crime, last night. (I hope this is leading to Assange being released from his de facto imprisonment — along with the other aspirations and demands mentioned — as the person who in fact was the whistleblower or perhaps criminal has already been released from actual legal prison for convicts.)

Well…. not quite so, actually. On the April 30th Pod Save America (Obama Administration veterans) “Offline” show (Jon Favreau) episode, there was still complaining about her (by the guest, mostly, and briefly).
