My Last Photo — December ‘23

Brian, aka Bushboy, posted his monthly Last on the Card prompt, where he asks us to…

  • Post the last photo from your camera’s SD card or the last photo from your phone taken in the month of December.
  • No editing — who cares if it is out of focus, not framed as you would like, or the subject matter didn’t cooperate?
  • No explanations needed — just the photo will do.

I’m offering up two photos this month. The first photo below was not the last one I took on my iPhone in December. It was actually taken on Christmas Eve at around 5 pm, just as the sun was setting. Other than being resized (shrunk), it was not touched up at all. The colors are true to what I saw.

This next photo actually was my last photo in December, taken yesterday morning. I was experimenting with my iPhone’s macro capabilities when I came across the spider web on our wire fence at the back of our property line. The morning was damp and foggy and I wanted to see if I could capture the morning dew drops clinging to the threads of the web. I thought it turned out okay, but I think I need more practice taking macro photos with my iPhone.

I’m doing something a little different this month. I’m featuring three photos I took a week ago testing the optical and digital zoom lenses on my new iPhone 15 Pro Max. Note, for purposes of saving media storage space on WordPress and to allow this page to load quickly, I’ve resized these photos from 24 megapixels for the first picture and 12 megapixels each for the next two photos, to 0.5 megapixels each.

The photos are of Mount Diablo from our backyard. Mount Diablo, at 3,800 feet elevation, is the tallest mountain in the San Francisco Bay Area. This first photo was taken using the iPhone’s standard 24mm lens. The peak of Mount Diablo is centered between the two pine trees.

This second photo was taken with the 120mm 5x optical zoom lens.

This third photo was taken with the same 120mm lens but using the 25x digital zoom setting.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the results…for a camera phone, anyway.

I actually took this photo last Friday when summer was making its last-ditch effort to stick around and it was still pretty warm where we live.

We love sitting out in our backyard looking at and listening to our waterfall. Apparently, our dog appreciates it, too, as it I snapped this shot of her relaxing next to the waterfall.

My Last Photo — September ‘23

This is probably the strangest last on the card photo I’ve published to date. I was getting ready to take a shower yesterday morning and, for some reason I thought about what my last picture for September would be. I looked at what I call my soap tray in the shower and, for some crazy reason, I thought that might make a fascinating photo.

Since I busted my hip and broke my arm last January, taking a shower has become a more time-consuming ordeal than it used to be. My shower products used to be just shampoo and bar soap. But after I did my falling off a ladder thing, I found I couldn’t just use bar soap, so I had to start using a loofa on a long handle in order to be able to reach and soap up my entire body.

I’d never used a loofa before, and that’s been an experience. Now I wash my hair with shampoo, my face with bar soap, and the rest of my body with liquid body soap and a loofa on a stick. And yes, my shampoo and body soap are specifically labeled as men’s products. Please don’t ask me why. That’s a story for another time and place.

My Last Photo — August ‘23

About the only positive outcome of having fractured my hip and my arm at the shoulder is that was able to have a handicapped parking placard issued to my vehicle. I took this photo sitting in my car parked in a handicapped-only parking space. I focused on the sign in the parking lot of my physical therapy facility, causing the handicapped parking placard and entertainment center in my car to be out of focus. That was intentional.

Now the sharped-eyed among you might notice the date and time displayed on the entertainment center. It states that the photo was taken at 1:04 pm on Friday September 1st, making this photo the first on my card for September 2023 and not the last on my card for August 2023.

So technically speaking, my presenting this photo as my last on the card for August is a violation. The actual last on my card for August 2023 was the photo below, taken on Monday, August 28 at 7:09 am.

I am appealing to Brian, aka Bushboy, to permit my violation of the last on the card clock. After all, what day and time is closer to August 31: August 28 at 7:09 am or September 1 at 1:04 pm?

I rest my case.
