Yes, Even More Q&A

Ursula, at An Upturned Soul, got nominated for the Liebster Award and she was kind enough to include my blog among her nominations. She wrote, “I’ve only just started following Fandango (that’s his real name, yes it is, just check out his Who Am I? on his blog… I think he’s a he, I’m never sure about these things especially online as gender was not something I thought about until someone at some point pointed out that I was this thing known as a she and even then it didn’t seem to matter… wtf am I talking about or more to the point what was I saying before I went off on this tangent), and I’ve noticed that he (I’m going with he) often borrows the questions in the blog award nominations posts of others, so I thought he should be given a blog award nomination of his own because I’d like to see what he does with it. He also is a Blogging Community supporter and does a Word of the Day. Thank you, Fandango, for Fandangoing!

First, thank you, Ursula, for the nomination and for your very kind words. Your gut, by the way, was right, I am a “he.” And thank you, too, for creating a new verb, “Fandangoing.” I love it.

Of course, all blog award nominations come with questions crafted by the recipient that he or she poses to his or her nominees. So here are Ursula’s questions and my answers.

  1. What question are you always hoping someone would ask you about yourself? What is it about you, Fandango, that makes you so brilliant?
  2. If you could come from anywhere in the world, where would that be and why? (And yes, you can say your actual place of origin if you’d like.) I’m a first generation American and I couldn’t be any more pleased than to have been born in the United States. Although with Donald Trump as president, I am thinking maybe Canada.
  3. What always keeps happening to you? I keep changing lanes on the freeway to one that inevitably is slower than the one from which I just changed.ABDEE7DF-59E1-4E33-AD52-4023253AD6C8
  4. How would you describe yourself to someone who couldn’t see you and would see you as you wanted to be seen? Retired, old, liberal, proud, pragmatic, practical, thoughtful, provocative, and boring.
  5. Did you find what you were looking for? I’ll let you know when I find it.9B09451B-D188-4B89-B174-B1BD38BF4C04
  6. Does a person’s name influence the person they become? I don’t think I’d be a different person if I had a different name. Fandango suits me.
  7. Does a person’s blog name influence the blogger they become and the posts they write? My blog’s name “,” reflects the fact that this is the fifth iteration of blogging for me. My blogging style has, of course, evolved since I first started blogging in 2005, but I don’t think the name of my blog has influenced my content. And, while “Fandango,” is my blogger name, as I blog anonymously, I used pseudonyms for all of my previous four blogs, although different pseudonyms.D6AFB530-AB93-44CC-A5EF-570C75C6B93A
  8. What is the question you always want to ask people but never do? I can’t think of any question I’ve never asked. Hmm. Maybe something like “How different are you in the real world from the person you present yourself to be on your blog?”

Okay. Your turn.

It’s An Honor To Be Nominated

Sadje, who blogs at Keep It Alive, was nominated for the Liebster Award, and was kind enough to include my blog as one of the eleven other blogs she selected to pass the nomination on to. I have declared my blog to be an “awards-free” blog, but I nonetheless appreciate it when someone takes the time to recognize my work. So while I won’t be “paying it forward” by nominating others, I will happily answer the questions Sadje posed to those she nominated. Here goes.

1. What is your biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve is people who ask me what my biggest pet peeve is. No, just kidding. It’s actually people who are too ignorant, too apathetic, or too lazy to vote.3D26B26E-4FA9-4201-9EC0-625F2AFEAE2C

2. Where did you get your name?

My parents gave it to me. Oh wait, do you mean my blog name? It’s Fivedotoh (5.0) because this is my fifth blog since I first started blogging in 2005, as I explained here earlier this month.

3. If you could change your name, what would it be?

My real name, my blog name, or my blog pseudonym? Actually, I’m happy with all of my names.

4. What was your favorite TV show as a kid?

This is a tough one since I was a kid for a good 12 or 13 years and the TV shows I liked when I was four or five versus when I was 12 or 13 were very different. I guess if I had to pick one show, it would be “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends.”873F8E81-714F-472E-9773-CBF6FF8EB35D

5. Do you have any weird habits?

Define “weird.” I don’t think I do, but one person’s normal might be another person’s weird.

6. Do you like fall scents/tastes?

I like the scent of fires (in fireplaces or fire pits; I’m not a pyromaniac for crissake). But I’m not a fan of what is referred to as fall or autumn veggies, like pumpkins, squash, etc.1FC58D28-857F-484F-AB7C-EAAC156DB9CB

7. What is your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite holiday is any holiday that gives my two adult kids a day off from work so that they are able to spend some time with my wife and me.

8. Do you prefer writing it down or typing it up?

My handwriting is illegible even to me, so I’ve gotten into the habit of typing everything from grocery lists to reminder notes to my blog posts on my iPhone’s virtual keypad. Yes

9. Netflix or cable?

Comcast in my area offers Netflix as part of its cable lineup, so I get both.

10. If money didn’t matter, what would you do with your life?

It’s a three way toss up between traveling, writing, and doing absolutely nothing.

11. What is your favorite thing about yourself?

My extraordinary good looks, my sharp wit, my keen sense of humor, my intelligence, my creativity, and, above all, my modesty.

Ten Questions

6227D322-1425-4604-9BC7-534B6ECE4211So Teresa over at The Haunted Wordsmith was nominated for the Liebster award. Good for her. It’s well-deserved. Then Teresa apparently drew my name out of a hat when following the rules that required her to nominate 5-11 other bloggers with fewer than 1,000 followers for the award.

Now some may consider this to be primitive of me, but my blog is an award-free blog. So while I can’t accept Teresa’s very kind nomination for the Liebster award, I can answer the ten questions she asked of those she nominated.

Here goes.

  1. If you could be any animal, what would it be? A werewolf. I’m already hairy and I love howling at the moon.
  2. Do you believe in fairy tales? No. I’m an atheist.
  3. What is your favorite movie/tv show? The Rachel Maddow Show. And don’t you dare judge me.
  4. What are you reading right now? This post.
  5. What is one movie people would be surprised to learn you like? My all-time favorite movie is Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein,” but that wouldn’t surprise anyone who knows me.
  6. If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be? Donald Trump. I’d fire my cabinet and resign before the end of the day.
  7. What advice would you give your younger self? Grow up!
  8. If you could swap blogs with someone, who would it be? Why would I wanna do that? My blog is da best. 🤪
  9. Name three places anywhere in the Universe that you would like to see up close. Uranus! No, I’m just kidding. I have no interest in seeing Uranus. What do you think I am — a proctologist? As to two other places, I dunno. Krypton and Dune.
  10. Dog, cat, fish, bird, reptile, small mammal, or no pet at all? A dog and a cat.

Yay Me!

So Karyn, over at Karyn’s Domain nominated me (and five other bloggers) for this thing called the Liebster Award. I’m not sure who Liebster is (or was) or if the name of the award evolved as a misspelling of the word “lobster.” Hey, it’s possible. According to Karyn, the Liebster Award seeks to highlight new/newer/newish bloggers.

When I told my wife about the award, she said, “Funny, your blog doesn’t look newish.”

Okay, that was kinda sad, I know. But what are you gonna do, rescind the nomination?

Anyway, my blog is ten months old, so I wouldn’t say it’s “new,” although I suppose to some bloggers, it’s newer than their blogs, so there’s that.

So now I’m supposed to acknowledge Karyn, who honored me with this nomination. Karyn, consider yourself to be acknowledged.

I’m also supposed to answer 11 questions that Karyn asked those of us she nominated. Then I’m supposed to nominate a minimum of five other bloggers who I think are deserving of the Liebster award and ask them each 11 quesions.

Let me start by answering Karyn’s 11 questions:

#1: If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you like to be right now?
I’d probably want to be in almost any other country right now that doesn’t have Donald Trump as president.

#2. What is your favorite hobby?
Blogging, duh!

#3. Name one person you admire and why?
Barack Obama. I miss you so much, Barack.

#4. What do you hope to accomplish, if anything, from blogging?
Expressing myself in writing and have others recognize and appreciate my writing by nominating me for Liebster Awards.

#5. Name one thing that you absolutely detest.
That thing would be Donald Trump.

#6. What inspires you the most?
The idea that Robert Mueller might be able to rid this country of that thing that I absolutely detest.

#7. If you could live at any time in history, when would it be and why?
The day before the 2016 presidential election in November 2016. That was the last time I smiled.

#8 Name something on your bucket list.
To go skydiving. Ha! No way. What? Do you think I have a death wish?

#9. What do you think awaits us beyond death?
Nothing. When you’re dead, you’re dead. You cease to exist. Just like you never existed before you were born.

#10. Do you believe we, individually, have a life’s purpose?
Yes, I do. To live every day being the best person you can be, to learn, to grow, to be an inspiration to those around you, and to leave the world a better place. Are you buying that?

#11. Name a “super-power” you’d like to have.
To blink my eyes and wiggle my nose (like Barbara Eden in “I dream of Jeannie”) and to have my wishes come true. My first wish would be that Trump is found guilty of obstruction of justice and collusion with the Russians to influence the election, and to be jailed as an American traitor. Woo hoo!

So now to nominate five other relatively new bloggers:

  1. Jim over at A Unique Title for Me
  2. Michael over at Afterwards
  3. Bad Dad over at Bad Dad Cartoons
  4. Sight over at Journey
  5. Angel over at Ponytail Mama

And now to ask each of them 11 questions. For each of you I nominated, tell us 11 things that we don’t know about you and that you’d like to share with us.

Easy peasy, right?
