David and Anita showed up at the rally at Lafayette Park across from the White House in the late afternoon. Like most of the people, they were there to grieve the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police and to demonstrate against such police brutality.

“We need to go into the belly of the beast,” David said. “It has become almost routine these days for the police all across the country to manhandle and abuse African-Americans and it must stop now.”

“I agree,” Anita said, “but these cops don’t play by the same rules when it comes to how they treat white people versus black people.”

“I know,” David agreed. “And the shame of it all is here we are, right across the street from the White House, a landmark building that symbolizes the American presidency, home to the leader of the free world. And the guy who lives there is acting like a mad king and is ordering his knights to disperse the protesters. He’s making a mockery of America around the world while he’s hiding in the bowels of the building in his bunker.”
