SoCS/Opposing Forces

Well this is special. Linda G. Hill gave us “above/below” for her Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. And weejars gave us “giant/tiny” and “heavy/light” for the Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Opposing Forces Prompt. Three sets of opposites.

So I thought it might be fun to come up with one stream of consciousness post that combines the three pairs of opposites. Let’s see how I do.

“I promise you, Marianne,” Josh said as he sat across the kitchen table from his wife, “this is not one of my hairbrained schemes. Everything is above board. And if it all goes as planned, the payoff in the end will be nothing short of giant.”

“Yeah, right, Josh,” Marianne said. “What kind of con is your tiny little brain cooking up now?”

Josh reached over and grabbed Marianne’s hands. “You used to believe in me, Marianne,” he said. “Now you sling insults at me.” Josh got a hurt look on his face. “I ain’t no lightweight, you know. You’re hitting me below the belt with comments like that.”

Marianne pulled her hands away from Josh’s. “You have a history, Josh. You always end up screwing your scams up and I wind up stuck having to bail you out of a jam.”

“This time it’s going to different, Marianne, I swear to you,” Josh said. “I’ve got it all worked out, so you can leave the heavy lifting to me.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Marianne said. “That’s what you say and then the burden falls upon me to clean up your mess.”

“Have faith in me, Marianne,” Josh said. “I’m going to score big time on this one and then we’ll have enough to get out of this shithole apartment and live the good life together.”

Marianne looked sympathetically at Josh. “Okay, fine,” she said. “One last con. Just promise me, Josh, that you won’t get yourself killed.”

“Aw, see, you do love me,” Josh said as he stood up, moved over to where Marianne was sitting, and gave her a kiss.
