The Blue Wave

B2629D38-47BD-487F-9C42-35505FF00AAAI have always thought that voting is an American principle and a basic democratic right that should be protected, promoted, and practiced. And I believed that, regardless of political party or ideology, one aspect of our American democracy that is sacrosanct is the right and duty to vote.

But boy oh boy was I naive. One party, the Republican Party, is going to great lengths in states controlled by Republican governors and/or legislators, to limit voting rights, particularly those of minority populations. In state after Republican state, roadblocks are being thrown in the path of a segment of voters in a blatant voter suppression initiative. In some cases, it’s reducing or closing polling places in minority districts. In other cases it’s purging registered voters from the voting rolls.

It’s actually quite scary how these fleek politicians keep trying to take advantage of those that they don’t see as worthy, that they don’t see as equals, that don’t look like them, that don’t pray like them, that they see as “the other.”

But at the risk of sounding like an internet troll, they will get theirs in November when the blue wave will come in and flush away their castle in the sand.

In Other Words — The Blue Wave

46C78B12-BBAB-45D0-A617-3D88E564EF9AIn the two years since Trump was elected, a lot of damage has been done.

The President, his Cabinet, and the Republicans in Congress (and Vladimir Putin) have been fiddling while our nation is burning.

Like me, many voters are fed up and angry, and in less than three months Americans will go to the polls.

We will be sending an important message.

A big blue wave is coming.

2E64CDA9-9659-4EFF-AA52-38290AED6E9FThis post is written for the “In Other Words” prompt from Patricia’s Place. Today’s word is “wave,” and the rules are to write a story or poem of five lines or less using the word “wave.”

This is the first time I’ve participated in Patricia’s In Other Words challenge, but when I saw what the word was, I couldn’t stop myself.

Setting the Stage

Today Donald Trump tweeted his first salvo as he tries to come up with excuses should there be a blue wave election in November: it’s not him, it’s the Russians. DEB4CFA5-84CD-4245-ADE7-C0B03B93017DIf the Democrats win big in the midterms, Trump will claim that they cheated with Russian help. You know, the same Russians who interfered on Trump’s behalf so he’d win in 2016. But why would Trump think that the Russians will help the Democrats in 2018 if he hadn’t colluded with the Russians to cheat for him in the last election?

And yet his avid supporters are just stupid enough to buy Trump’s bullshit and lies. And you know that all of Fox News will be all over this conspiracy theory.

When will this nightmare end?

One-Liner Wednesday — Turning Blue

5F48C5FC-A164-408D-B9BF-471BDDCD819B“Congressional districts are like body parts. When they turn blue, you know something is terribly wrong.”

Jordan Klepper, Host of “The Opposition” on Comedy Central

Jordan Klepper is an American comedian, producer, actor, and television host. He is best known for being an on-air correspondent on “The Daily Show” and, more recently, as the host the satirical Comedy Central program “The Opposition with Jordan Klepper.” He’s actually a very funny guy and it’s a very funny show.

The show is intended to satirize the alt-right media such as InfoWars, Breitbart, Rush Limbaugh, and even Fox News. Klepper portrays an over-the-top Alex Jones type of character in much the same way as Stephen Colbert depicted a conservative pundit on “The Colbert Report” before he left Comedy Central to take over from David Letterman on “The Late Show” on CBS in September 2015.

The quote at the top of this post is obviously a tongue-in-cheek, comedic statement mocking the fears of conservative Republicans that there will be a “blue wave” at the upcoming midterm elections in November.

Go big blue!
