I like the idea of keeping our religion, sexuality, and income to ourselves…

My mom absolutely didn’t want to have anything to do with being Catholic while I was growing up (with the exception of when I was a newborn and was christened, before she had been to many classes aimed at joining, while she had the intent). In her very old age, she decided to join (due to her having an absolute crush on a priest as if that makes sense). Then she started angrily asking why I didn’t want to join, accusing me of being anti-Catholic. I told her I’d already be Catholic if she hadn’t been actively against it all of my life (because of birth control in her case). Why would I join now (when I’m more informed)? Of course, there’s no reasoning or really any belief involved (except, I think, that putting her butt in a pew makes her superior). She’s just a narcissist.

I’ve never really understood the notion that ‘one must respect the religious views of others’. I’m all for respecting people’s right to hold a religious view, but it doesn’t necessarily follow that the view itself deserves respect. Utterly baseless views should not be encouraged, let alone be given the privileges of a protected species.
