Fandango’s Flashback Friday — April 7th

Wouldn’t you like to expose your newer readers to some of your earlier posts that they might never have seen? Or remind your long term followers of posts that they might not remember? Each Friday I will publish a post I wrote on this exact date in a previous year.

How about you? Why don’t you reach back into your own archives and highlight a post that you wrote on this very date in a previous year? You can repost your Flashback Friday post on your blog and pingback to this post. Or you can just write a comment below with a link to the post you selected.

If you’ve been blogging for less than a year, go ahead and choose a post that you previously published on this day (7th) of any month within the past year and link to that post in a comment.

Early to Bed, Early to Rise

Back in the day I used to be a world class sleeper.

Sure, I had to get up early to go to school during the week, but on weekends I would rarely experience the mornings.

Even when I went off to college, I did everything I could to avoid early morning classes.

I actually changed my major because my original major had too many eight o’clock classes.

When I graduated from college and started working, I would sleep late into the mornings — and sometimes even into the early afternoons — on weekends.

And then everything changed

I married a woman who wanted to “do things” on weekends.

We got dogs who didn’t know how to read a clock.

We had little kids who couldn’t tell time.

And then I got older.

Suddenly.

A lot older.

I had trouble staying awake much beyond 11 p.m.

10 p.m. really.

I was no longer able to sleep straight through the night due to my age-related, nocturnal call of nature.

I started waking up between 6 and 6:30 am.

Every morning.

No matter how late I went to sleep.

So now I am a morning person.

Not necessarily by choice.

But because that’s just the way it is.

I don’t mind being a morning person.

I enjoy the quiet solitude before others are awake and about.

It’s peaceful.

I can get things done without interruption.

Early morning.

It’s my most productive time of the day.

It’s when I do my best work.

Now if only, as Ben Franklin suggested,

I could also be healthy, wealthy, and wise.

Good post Fandango. I used to sleep in at the weekends, but not so much now. Nothing to do with kids, or dogs actually. Just age I guess.

I am an aging night owl and so far no desires to wake up early have invaded my being – thank goodness! Ha, ha!
