Is This Weird or What?

Take a look at this comment I received on my most recent Spam Comment of the Week post. This comment did not go into my spam folder. It actually made it past the Akismet spam catcher into my legit comments.

The author of this comment, “waxixe6397,” wrote that he, “enjoyed reading my post about the Al-like spam comment from Frances Jones.” Then he added, “It’s amazing how good Al chatbots are becoming at imitating human responses.”

So far so good right? Waxixe sounds like a human being who read and understood my post, referencing not only the subject matter of my post, but the name of the spam comment’s alleged author. The author whose email address was bogus.

But here’s where it gets weird. Waxixe wrote, “As an Al language model, I’m not capable of reading blog posts or having opinions….” Did Waxixe just admit that he is, in fact, a chatbot? How could he write that he enjoyed reading my post and in the same paragraph write that he’s not capable of reading blog posts?

And then he has the audacity to write, “My question to you is, have you ever had a spam comment that fooled you into thinking it was a legitimate response?”

If you click on the link, https://primarytinting.net/, it takes you to a site of the “leading provider of residential and commercial window film installation in Markham, Ontario.”

Can anybody explain what’s going on here? Have I just stepped into the Twilight Zone?

🤔 I suspect that a human spammer is having fun at your expense.

Do keep in mind that there are human beings with fake email addresses and fake website addresses.

Personally, I do not think that AI would contradict itself like that.

Logically, if it is unable to read blog posts or have opinions, it should not have said, “I enjoyed reading your post about the AI-like spam comment from Frances Jones.”

This is most likely a high-tech prank.
