I used to look forward to the mailman’s arrival
To the handwritten letters and postcards from friends
But now my mail is mostly just flyers, brochures, and bills
All but the bills go right into the trash
(Exactly 37 words)
Written for Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt, where the word is “mail” in exactly 37 words.
Luckily we don’t get brochures or flyers here.

I get all my bills online. We toss everything in the recycle bin on the way back from the mailbox.

I get MOST of my bills on line, too.

We have the old-fashioned mailbox with the flag and no lock, so the less paper mail of any consequence we get, the better. I get an email every day from the USPS that shows what’s in the mail., so if I see something important (like credit cards or medical bills), I can let Mary know it’s coming. Otherwise, she can leave it there for days….

Can’t you get signs to go on your letterbox?……

No. And do I want the mail delivery person making the decision about what is junk versus legitimate mail? Nope.

I can so relate to this!!! EVERY DAY! I wonder why they spend all that money on glossy flyers and postage when 90% of the recipients throw it in the trash! I got one the other day from a local funeral home … I used a black Sharpie and wrote in big block letters, “RETURN TO SENDER”. Sigh.

I’m constantly getting brochures from senior living communities. I may be in my 70s, but I’m not ready for that yet.

At least leaflets and flyers mean mailmen and femailers still have jobs!

Trashing bills is a time honored tradition in my family. Nicely done.

Insurance offers, pre-approved credit card, hearing aids, and burial preplanning are some of the highlights of the past week. Whoo hoo!
