Welcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question. Each week I will pose what I think is a provocative question for your consideration.
By provocative, I don’t mean a question that will cause annoyance or anger. Nor do I mean a question intended to arouse sexual desire or interest.
What I do mean is a question that is likely to get you to think, to be creative, and to provoke a response. Hopefully a positive response.
My provocative question today is simple, although it’s a multi-parter. As you probably know, for many bloggers, April is the month of the A to Z Blogging Challenge. The official badge for this year is below.

There are 26 letters in the English language and 30 days in April, so each year the A to Z promoters try to sign up as many bloggers as possible to register at the official A to Z Challenge site, to pick a theme for the challenge, and to post A to Z Challenge entries every day during the month (except Sundays). The idea is to go through the alphabet, starting with the letter A on April 1st and ending with the letter Z on April 30th. Here’s the calendar for 2023:

For the record, I have formally and officially participated in the A to Z Challenges from 2018 through 2022. I am participating again this year, but I’m going rogue, so to speak, as are a few other bloggers I’m aware of. Essentially, I am not registering on the official A to Z site, but I am planning to post A to Z posts just I’ve done in the past when I had officially registered. Blogger Paula Light even created a special A to Z “Rebels” badge for folks like us.

So this week’s multi-part provocative question is:
Are you planning to formally and officially register for this year’s A to Z Blogging Challenge, pick a theme, and participate? Why or why not?
Or, are you planning to informally and unofficially participate in this year’s A to Z Blogging Challenge on an ad hoc basis?
Or, are you going to skip the A to Z Challenge altogether?
Note: I encourage everyone who wishes to participate in this year’s A to Z Blogging Challenge to join the official, main group and to sign up on the officially sanctioned list! More information on how to do so can be found here.
If you choose to participate in Fandango’s Provocative Question, you may respond with a comment or write your own post in response to the question. Once you are done, tag your post with #FPQ and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Or you can simply include a link to your post in the comments. But remember to check to confirm that your pingback or your link shows up in the comments.
I plan to participate officially and have published my theme reveal post too.

Funny, I just thought about Blogging from A-Z this morning, pondering if I should take part or not. I like how well-organized the official event is but feel it’s a bit of a faff to sign up and everything that comes with it. So I decided to leave it and rather read other bloggers’ posts.

Yes, going through that whole signup rigamarole with those Google spreadsheets is a bit of a pain, which is why I’m going rogue and doing the challenge unofficially.

I might change my mind in the next couple of weeks 😁

I’ll share this with the people on the team. It might be interesting where it leads.

I’m in, albeit unofficially. I’ll read the official commitments and requirements later today.

Not this year. I don’t think I’ve ever done it though and to be honest, thinking of a theme for 26 days is a big commitment. Good luck to everyone taking part though.

Yes/no. I don’t really know why “going rogue” is so important, since it’s a blogger-in thing, but we’re human–you do you. (Especially if you create a badge that says, “I don’t need a badge.” I would really like to participate and urge everyone to do so, because there’s tremendous benefit in writing every day. But it’s a huge time constraint, and I’m super busy. So… we’ll see… it’s a mystery. If I do, I’m thinking about writing about The Silk Road.

That would be an interesting topic.

I wanted to do it , but I decided not to since I do not want to pressure myself. I loved that going rogue badge and maybe write one day. I have had fun reading other bloggers on this challenge so that may alone happen.😊

I agree about the hassle of blogger. I would like to respond to some likes or comments left by these people but am hindered by endless rigamarole. I’ll fall into the Paula theme.

Why are you doing it “unofficially”? Will you have a specific theme? Curious of your approach.

The official challenge requires completing Google spreadsheets to register for the A to Z challenge and to declare your theme. I find them a pain to work with from my iPhone, which is the device I use for my blogging. I did all of that from 2018 thru 2022, but once I went through the hassle of completing the required spreadsheets, I never used them again, so I thought it was a waste of time and effort. So this year I’m just going to post 26 A to Z posts without going through all that rigamarole. And isn’t posting the whole point of the challenge. My theme this year is classic rock songs.

I have a lot going on in April so I will have to skip it this year. But if I can remember I have a plan for next year already.
