Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.
This was actually yesterday’s daily prompt, but I thought I’d respond to it even though I’m a day late. My favorite shoes these days are what are called hands-free, step-in, slip-on sneakers. Why? Because in my current condition recuperating from a partial hip replacement, I can’t tie my own shoes.

There are probably three or four brands of hands-free, step-in, slip-on sneakers on the market. Maybe even more by now. The brand I have is Kizik. But the other hands-free brands, like Kizik, enable you to put on tie sneakers without bending down.

Truth be told, I’ve actually been wearing Kizik sneakers since way before I broke my hip. Probably since 2021. Not because I was unable to bend down, but because I was lazy and didn’t want to bend or sit down to tie or untie my sneakers all the time. Slipping on and off my sneakers, hands-free and without bending down, just seemed to make sense.
But, now, even more so. And you know what? When I was still in the hospital starting my inpatient rehab, the physical therapists were so impressed by my hands-free, no bending required to put on and take of my sneakers, that they were going to start recommending them to other hip replacement surgery patients.
Hey, I’m a freakin’ trend setter!
Yeah, that’s cool!

I tried the Sketchers brand of these sneakers for my dad but I couldn’t explain to him how to push his foot in properly so he couldn’t get his foot in at the right angle.

I have a pair of Sketchers that were advertised as slip-ons, but they don’t exactly work as hands-free or bend-free. But they are quite comfortable.

For my dad now I just buy slip-on Sketchers. I get aggravated though when I see he has no socks on. He never went without socks in my whole life! Lol.

I wear socks. Or sandals. Or Uggs. Or slide on (backless) shoes. I don’t remember the last time I tied my shoes. It has to have been decades ago.

The good news about hands-free sneakers is that you tie them once, and after that, they are slip-ons. No bending to put them on or take them off.

Unlike you know who, I really DO have bone spurs on my heel, so all my shoes have no backs. Other than boots, ALL my shoes are slip ons. My only problem with them is that if there’s any mud, they get sucked right off your foot which can be a bit icky.
