I get some interesting spam comments on my blog, most of which are captured by Akismet, WordPress’ spam blocker. I generally do a mass delete of all of my spam comments after checking to see if any legitimate comments got caught up in Akismet’s spam-catching net.
I thought it might be fun to select a particularly interesting or unique or outrageous spam comment and highlight it each week.
This week’s featured spam comment was from Carey Shupe and was in response to my “Adding Insult to Injury” post.
That is a very good tip particularly to those new to the blogosphere. Brief but very accurate information….. Thank you for sharing this one. A must read article!
Carey, I’m glad you found my plan to get out of jury duty to be such a good tip for new bloggers. Falling off a ladder, fracturing a hip, and having hip replacement surgery is, indeed, a good, albeit possibly a little extreme, way to get excused from jury service.
I am adding a second spam comment this week that I’d like to share. This comment was made on an earlier Spam of the Week post and was from Chris Goveny. I’m not sure if Chris is a he or a she, but he/she seems to have his/her bases covered.
When someone writes an post he/she retains the idea of a user in his/her mindthat how a user can understand it. Thus that’s why thispiece of writing is perfect. Thanks!
Anyway, have you read some catchy spam comments that you’d like to share with us? If so, put them in the comments or create your own post and tag it #FSCW.
HA! We started off January with bargain prices on RVs. Hurry now; going fast. Then the table turned; they wanted to repair my RV, but only if it was a Mercedes. This week I’m told I am an impressive tool. (Thank you, ever) They also claim to be nearby, and want to repair the floor and heater in my RV.

Do you even want or have an RV?

No and no. It’s curious that all the spam is related to RVs.

I don’t get it. You and Brian Bushboy get loads of spam. I’ve just checked my own spam box for the first time in maybe 6 weeks, and there’s one thing there – a compliment from a regular reader of my blog, who blogs with WP herself. All very odd.

You’re lucky. I would rather get no or few spam comments than the 50+ I get most days.

Quite. I hope I stay lucky.

All the SPAM I got this week came from one post that I wrote, but it generated almost 300 comments from different pharmaceutical companies. The post was for Tranquil Thursday, and I titled it Tranquil Discussion. I guess all these pharma companies though I was depressed, and they kept trying to push Zoloft and other products on me. I would like to try and do an experiment on a different title to see if it could attract more spam than this one did, but it is a pain in the butt having to delete all of this.

Only you would experiment with trying to generate more spam! 😏

I got one this week. It was in response to a One Liner Wednesday quote that I posted recently “A perfect metaphor for my life would be someone trying to stand up in a hammock”. It was a fun thing – a joke right? Anyway this was the comment from someone called parrainage gate (?)
“I agree with your point of view, your article has given me a lot of help and benefited me a lot. Thanks. Hope you continue to write such excellent articles.”
Ha, i always did think my one liners were profound. LOL
