AI Art — To Be or Not To Be

Sometimes I spend as much time searching for the perfect image for a post as I do writing the post from scratch. So I wondered if some of the new AI Art generation apps might be helpful. The other day I used a chatbot to write a post and then used a text to art AI bot to generate a piece of art that showed a robot writing a blog post. Here’s what it generated.

Not too shabby, huh? So then I decided to ask a text to art generator to produce an image of a man sitting in a chair with a perplexed look on his face as he was trying to make an important decision. Here are the results using a few different AI Art apps:

Thoughts?

Then I posed this question to the AI Art apps: “The sound of the pouring rain outside was like a steady drumbeat in the background as the woman curled up in her favorite chair and opened the old leather-bound book.” Here are the results:

Actually, three of these are AI-generated art. One is an image I grabbed off of Pinterest. Can you guess which one?

Anyway, bottom line question: should I stick with searching for photos/images on the internet or do text to art AI generators hold any promise?

Yes, the last one is from Pinterest. Hey, you’re a photographer. Of course you think they’re all crap! 😏

I’d say the 3rd image of a woman is from Pinterest.

I also will hazard a guess on the third. I love the AI art! It’s fun and why not use it if it makes you happy? Lately I try very hard to use images I already have in my media library so as to save space, so I appreciate when other people get more creative with theirs 🙂

Actually, it’s the 4th that was Pinterest. The third was AI-generated.

I’ve seen them put to good use, but I think they are already becoming blase’ in their same-differentness. No thanks for me. If we turn writing and art over to AI, I think we are in big trouble.

I take my own pictures and don’t use stuff from Pinterest. I never know if it’s copyrighted or not. I’ve been burned already and don’t feel like dealing with that again. Generate or shoot your own.

I’m just amazed by the effort, Fandango. I recall when you feared you’d have to stop blogging because WP was making things too difficult for you.

Well, Annie, I’m at home recuperating from having busted my hip last month, so things like this keep me occupied.

The sound of the pouring rain outside was like a steady drumbeat in the background as the woman …

I don’t think any of the pictures stand on their own to convey the concept, but three of them would do along with the text saying so. The second one doesn’t really work, in my opinion. The third is quite stylized or impressionistic while effective and of interest. The foggy outdoors and huge windows of the first could be made interesting as well. (Maybe it’s the super-brief silver shorts, but I’m not seeing the last one as quite a woman. Perhaps she could be evaluating perceptions of her newly-recognized and changing circumstances.)

As for the pictures of men, they are significantly different looks of being perplexed. A writer could simply select a favorite or best match, I suppose. They could work as portraying other states of being, too tough.

I’m guessing an internet search decided that was a woman because there are boobs, but this can happen before age sixteen; even before fifteen (and, hell, we recently had a story of a pregnant ten year old in the news).

Creepy Matt Walsh, Ki$$ my ass…

Sorry Fandango, I could get past the perplexed dude in the purple shirt… He looks like he’s eating his finger.

Well, not being able to see, images don’t matter to me, but, I did not even know there were such apps on the market and I think that’s pretty neat!

I guessed the last being from Pinterest as well. But I think I’ll look into it…just for curiosity’s sake.

I like playing around with AI, but I think I will always prefer Artists, art.

Knowing a couple of artist… I would say no to the AI. It is like self-checkouts leave us short of real cashiers, AI takes away from real artist. It is a shortcut that is sloppy I think. Not my cup of tea.
