That’s what the tech said to me when she slide me out from within the MRI machine. I had asked her if the images of my shoulder came out okay. “Yeah, the images came out great. Sharp and clear,” she said. Then she looked down at me, still lying on the MRI table and said, “You got some stuff going on there.”

“What kind of stuff?” I asked.

“Well, I’m just the tech. Your radiologist and orthopedic surgeon can tell you more.”

Great. I knew almost immediately that I busted my hip on the left side when I fell off the ladder last month, and I also knew that my right shoulder felt a little sore. But my hip, which required emergency partial hip replacement surgery was the priority.

It’s now going on four weeks since that surgery. I’m at home, undergoing some intensive physical therapy, and my hip is slowly starting to heal. I still need a walker to get around and I’m learning how to deal with routine activities of daily living being anything but routine.

But what has taken me by surprise has been the rapid deterioration of my right shoulder, arm, and hand. I started noticing that moving my right arm up and away from my body was really painful. Then my fingers started to feel numb and pins and needly, like they do when you fall asleep on your arm.

And that’s when I started losing my grip…literally. I couldn’t hold a toothbrush to brush my teeth using my right hand. I was having trouble holding utensils, like a fork and a spoon, and I even had to ask my wife to cut my meat.

When I told my doctor about it, he arranged for me to get an MRI of my right shoulder yesterday afternoon. So what’s the prognosis? Well, all I can tell you right now is that I got some stuff going on in my shoulder. I’ll know more after I hear from the radiologist and doctor.

But there is some good news. I heard back from the county yesterday about my request to be excused from serving on a jury next month. I received an email today, which stated, “Your request to be excused from jury service is granted. You are not required to appear for service on this summons. You may receive another summons in the future and your circumstances will need to be reviewed again at that time.”

      I hope so, too. I’d hate to now have shoulder surgery on top of hip surgery.

        I know someone who has had two shoulder reconstructions. He needed a lot of help for weeks. Hope you don’t need that.

    So sorry you’re going through this Fandango. Modern surgery is really good though so I hope they can fix you quickly.

    I’m glad that your hip is coming along and sad about your shoulder. I’m keeping fingers crossed for a good prognosis.
    But I am glad that you chose to feature a Siemens MRI. My husband used to install and service them, in fact his “baby” was the first MRI in South Africa and he also had a watchful eye over the Groote Schuur MRI in Cape Town (way back when … they were still a novelty and not at all common). 😊

      Thank you. I’m not sure what brand the MRI machine yesterday was, but Siemens is a well known brand that many facilities here use.

        My husband worked in Milwaukee, NYC and Los Angeles on loan when business was slow in South Africa (or when he wanted to get away from me …). He also was in Raleigh in NC once. Siemens has (had?) a large training facility there.

    Mr. Ancient Guy With Titanium Shoulder knew that jury duty would be called off, but he’s heartbroken to hear about your additional Joint issue. Hoping for the best but, knowing how things seem to be going for all of us these days…just hoping you’ll hang in there & keep us posted.

    Nothing like a “stuff” diagnosis, sometimes I wish the tech would just spit it out. They have seen enough damned shoulders to know what’s going on. Guess everyone has to get paid on down the line. Good news about the hip coming along and jury duty being scrubbed though.

    Mm, not good news medically, hopefully they can sort that out, l wonder if you got some impact jarring injury when you fell. Good news about jury service though – that would a real pain if you had to attended. Story a few years ago about a chap who had a broken spine and was in hospital got called to do jury service and the authorities nearly jailed him for non-attendance. It took longer to get them to understand his situation than if had dragged himself out of bed and got to the courts.

    Poor you, but at least you don’t have to do jury service. I was called upon and said I couldn’t do it for health reasons and was excused. Hope it’s good news about your shoulder. Wonder if you damaged it when you fell?

    I hope the news is better than you expect. Hopefully something they can fix by adding shoulder exercises into your PT routine. I was finally promoted to a cane (after almost 3 months!)

      Congratulations of moving to a cane. I’m expecting my ortho surgeon. At my visit on Monday to limit my 50% weight bearing limitation on my left leg, which would, I suppose, result in me being able to ditch my walker for a cane. But with my right arm being close to useless lately, I’m not sure if that’s feasible. 🤦🏼‍♂️
