You may be wondering where I’ve been over past 48 hours. Or not. Whatever. But let me start out by saying that the year 2023 has not gotten off to a good start for me. On New Year’s Day, my dog’s leash wrapped around my feet, causing me to fall on and injure my back. I was having agonizing lower back spasms for the first three days after that incident. Then, on Saturday morning, during a break in the heavy rainfall, I was up on a ladder cleaning my gutters and I somehow managed to fall off the ladder, landing hard on my left hip.
I called my wife with my cellphone and told her that I’d fallen and can’t get up. Seeing me on the ground writhing in pain, unable to move my left leg at all, she called 9-1-1. Within a few minutes the paramedics arrived, put a hard board under my body, lifted me onto a wheeled gurney, loaded the gurney with me on it into an ambulance, and drove me to the emergency room. Shortly after arriving, I was wheeled into an X-ray room. And then, not long after that, I got the news from an orthopedic surgeon. I had fractured my hip on the left side. In a few hours I was in surgery undergoing a partial hip replacement.
Nice, huh? And now I’m in my hospital room, where I’ll remain for the next two to three days before I’m transferred to a rehab facility where I will undergo physical and occupational therapy for a week or two to learn how to walk and cope with my new partial artificial hip replacement. The total recuperation period for an old fart like me can typically take anywhere from six weeks to four months. Isn’t that special?
Why am I telling you this? It’s simple, I probably won’t be doing a whole lot of blogging over at least the next two to three weeks. Maybe longer. I have some posts scheduled, but as far as writing a bunch of new posts or even responding to prompts, probably not.
And to think that just a few weeks ago I thought 2023 was going to be a better year than 2022. Silly me.
