It’s January 13, 2023. Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.).
Today’s word is “vindicated.”
Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.
Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.
And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. Show them some love.
ODE TO VINDICATED
Selfishness I’m charged with
The chargers oh so keen
Vindicated in my diary
My honour can be seen

I moved to what was already called Silicon Valley in the eighties after beginning to learn about computing in the seventies. My dad’s dad’s family moved to America, and the United States specifically (and then my grandfather up to Saint Louis), in the late nineteenth century. Other of my family members — on my mother’s and my paternal grandmother’s parts — were part of the colonial experience early on and moved from Eastern Europe here in the early twentieth. The failure of the market concepts to which we imagined we aspired, falling for the “invisible hand” (false god), the selling off of the community, and other mistakes (from one angle and successful hoodwinks from another) I don’t conclude prove “g/God” (or the larger Reality) fails or isn’t too. The universe and the universe of ideas exists, no matter how much we fuck up or try to fuck it up (or others fuck it over again and again).
Yet, I don’t see a way that I “count” on whatever will be. I doubt I’d want to exact my own revenge if I saw things differently; there is hope and no hope, not some countintuitive mix to satiate my own winds of whims or make me a winner, giving me one of the biggest boats while I wait to view the end from the vista on my deck.
How the Internet was Stolen
Dec 20 2022
I look at the history of the internet, from ARPANET & NSFNET, through privatization, to Tim-Berners Lee, Yahoo, Netscape, Google, eBay, and Facebook, examining Microsoft’s antitrust court case and their battle against Open Source and Free Software, Bill Gate’s Open Letter to Hobbyists and the leaked Halloween Documents. Then we take a look at the emergence of Surveillance Capitalism, and how platforms like AirBnb & Uber coopt the idea of the community and lobby politicians. Finally, we take a look at some alternatives.
