Renegade Reader

I’m having some strange issues with my WordPress Reader. To put it in context, I use my iPhone and the WordPress iOS app for everything I do related to my blog: writing posts, reading and commenting on other bloggers’ posts, etc. So perhaps the strange issues I’m having are specific to the WordPress iOS app. But I am curious if anyone else might be having the same things happening to them, whether using the Reader on their smartphones or using their web browsers.

Here’s what’s happening. I usually start my day by going to the Reader to see what the bloggers I follow posted while I was sleeping. When I open the Reader on my iPhone, it usually takes me to the last post I read before going to sleep the night before.

Then I start reading the posts in my Reader, sometimes linking to the actual post. So far, so good. But then, without warning, my Reader will jump forward or backward. Sometimes it will jump to the very latest post, zooming past posts I haven’t yet looked at. Other times it will jump way back to posts I’ve already read.

I know that having my WordPress Reader unexpectedly zoom forward past posts I haven’t yet read or suddenly jump back to posts I already have read is not, in the big scheme of things, a major issue. But it’s just one more annoyance among a list of other annoyances. Like having bloggers I have been following for a long time inexplicably disappear from the bloggers I follow. Or not being able to comment on and/or like certain bloggers’ posts. Or having draft posts suddenly vaporize into the ether never to be seen again. Or having the WordPress app freeze in the middle of a post I’m composing, requiring me to shut down my iPhone and turn it back on to unfreeze the app.

But, since there’s no real, viable alternative to WordPress, I guess I’ll just have to learn to cope with these annoyances, including my renegade Reader.

Yeah, it seems like EVERYTHING, these days, has at least one wire that’s hay. I’ve had a few Reader glitches, too, but few & far between (jump back three, read again.)

They have been doing a lot of work with graphics and photographs. On a positive note, they have made it easier to find saved photographs. But otherwise, weird stuff sometimes happens to photos. They may show up way too small or HUGE, or centered in the wrong part of the page. Headings are behaving similarly and sometimes, using color blocks comes out weird. Owen has a lot of trouble viewing my blog through HIS iPhone, so I don’t think it’s just you, though his main problem is that is won’t show galleries and many picture show up as blank.

It happens to me too. And sometimes posts from some bloggers are hidden and then they appear after some time.

The blog zoom around started happening to me on my ipad a couple of days ago. Missing posts is very common.

All of the above; especially annoying is the missing follows.

I only work on my PC or laptop so haven’t experienced any of these issues but it would be very annoying.

I’ve had this issue as well when I updated the app. As of late, it hasn’t happened anymore.

I don’t use the ‘Reader’ much myself. And when I do, I don’t read posts in the Reader; I visit the blogger’s site itself as the Reader’s formatting often perverts the creator’s intent. And I don’t often browse others blogs on a dumbphone, for much the same reason; the screen is too small, compromises are made. And I never compose posts on a dumbphone; it’s far too clumsy.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying, “Sorry, can’t really help you here, Fandango, other than to suggest you try using a PC instead of a dumbphone.”

I can’t leave comments on some other bloggers’ posts when I visit their site. I can only do that via the Reader. So even if I go to their sites to see the “unperverted” view, I have to comment through the Reader. I think it’s an issue with my “dumbphone.”

My reader screen bounces sometimes, but not like you’re experiencing. Sometimes it will take me to the upgrades page, then I hit the back arrow and it puts me back where I was, or suddenly I am at the top of my reader and have to scroll down to where I was reading. Some regular posts don;t come into my reader at all, and then I find them sandwiched in between things I’d read ages before.
I sigh and bounce with it…………….
