Reblog: I’ve Been Pondering …

Had I written this post, I would have titled it “The Gaslighting of America.” Jill has written a great post, one worth both reading and pondering. But I think she buried the lede. Americans have been gaslighted. We have been manipulated and persuaded that talk and actions that once were considered to be unacceptable — and still should be unacceptable — are small blips and minor annoyances. And instead of responding to them as we should, we whine about them for a few days and then move on, in essence, normalizing the unacceptable.

Please take a moment to read Jill’s excellent post. If you have thoughts or comments about her post, please express them on her post.

I’ve been pondering what seems like the recent ‘normalization’ of such things as anti-Semitism, Naziism, racism, political corruption, disrespect, …

I agree in all of it but writing to my congressmen has done nothing.  It is red WY where I live.

You should listen to her on youtube.
If it wasn’t such a horrifying situation for your country, it would make a great soap opera. 😏

Yes, only words. And those who should be hearing them are wearing earplugs.

I don’t know for whom this is “normal.” If it is, they must be white and living in a tidy white suburb because there’s nothing normal or acceptable about any of this for any of us.

It’s not normal, but it’s being normalized in that such acts, talk, behavior is no longer unusual and unacceptable. For many it generates a shrug of the shoulders and an expression of, “Yeah, well, that’s the way things are these days,” and then within a few news cycles, they’re, for the most part, either excused or forgotten.

None of the people who do that are brown, gay, Jewish, or any other minority. Our problem is that we ARE old and have other problems — like health problems, our and our children and our mates. There isn’t much we can do. We are past having much impact on the world. At one time, we did, but we are long past it. But no, it is NOT normalized, not by the people affected by it.

Thank you so much for reblogging this, Fandango! I greatly appreciate it, and yes, I probably did bury the lede, but it was just one of those posts where a simple thought grows and sets off a chain of other thoughts, so it is rather the ramblings of a disturbed mind! Thanks again!
