I woke up this morning to find a boatload of comments from “gregshe11.” He commented on a lot of comments from some of you who commented on my Wild Animals post from yesterday.
I am not sure if he’s real, a spammer, a troll, or a bot. His comments seem to be triggered off of key words in the comment upon which he’s commenting. So I think he’s not legit and I encourage you to ignore or delete his comments.
I moved all of his comments into my pending folder and sent him this message:

I’m not expecting to hear back from “Greg.”
We can’t delete comments made on your post. Only you can do that

I’ve moved all of his comments to my Pending folder. Are they still showing up in your comments?

No not now.

You try enabling Akismet

Akismet is enabled, but there’s nothing in this guy’s comments that might trigger them to go directly to my spam folder.

Hmmm.. how about you filter the comments that you’ll only approve… i think there is a setting for that

I could do that, but it would be time consuming. I ended up blocking Gregshe11 and deleting all of his comments. I’m sure he’s a robot, anyway.

You can put his handle and words of his name in the block of black list. That’s what I had to do.

That’s what I did, so hopefully I won’t get anymore comments from him that get posted.

I think gregshe11 is a really odd duck, and I am happy that he is not spamming me.

Ugh, good job to take his comments away!

Every once in a while I get comments (?) that seem real but ultimately are NOT. A lot of them are “rebloggers.” I block them through Chrome and AGAIN through WordPress. They usually do NOT have a real blog or even a real account anywhere, but they apparently have a good AI working.

In answer to your question, yes, his comments are still alive. Once they wiggle into your comments, it sometimes (I have a couple of people like this) it get VERY hard to remove them. IF you get his notification through Chrome, block them in Chrome. After that, they rarely show up in your blog comments. Except for ONE guy I can’t seem to get rid of. He at least goes to trash, but I haven’t been able to fully block him, not by name — AND he doesn’t come through Chrome as most of the other comments do. He’s just a spammer, but very annoying.

Ah that would explain the sometimes bizarre-o comments that can pop up. Maybe it’s not just someone drinking and blogging, or a troll, but it’s a bot.

I think you may be right.

I saw one from him come into my notification on this post Fandango too. I see you’ve removed it but the one directly to you is still there.

Nightmare. There seems to be so much more spam to filter through these days. Most of mine do go into a spam folder, but annoyingly proper comments do end up in there too. Good luck sorting it. KL ♥️

These are AI comments. Notify whoever deals with Akismet and they’ll add to the algorithm that recognises spam.

For the record, it is NOT this Greg although I must admit my posts may taste as bad as a can of SPAM!

Don’t worry. I would never confuse that Greg with you. 😂
