“Absolutely not!” Jim said to Darlene. “When I agreed to let you bring this fleabag dog home from the pet store, you promised that you would keep it off of our bed. So what do you do? You go out and buy steps so that hound of yours can use them to climb up on our bed. I won’t have it, dammit.”
“But honey, he’s so cute and when he climbs up on the bed, he stays on my side, cuddles up next to me, and loves to snuggle, which, by the way, is more than you ever do anymore,” Darlene said.
“I don’t care,” Jim said. “You made me a promise and I’m going to hold you to it. I will not have that mutt in our bed. Now where did you get that step thing? I’m going to take it back and get a refund.”
“You’re not taking it back,” Darlene insisted. “And if I want the dog to sleep in our bed all snuggled up next to me, he will.”
“It’s me or the dog, Darlene,” Jim said.
Darlene smiled. “Bye, Jim,” she said.
Written for Jim Adams’ Thursday Inspiration prompt, where we can use the prompt word step, or going with the above picture, or by means of the song ‘Hold On,’ or by going with another song by Wilson Phillips, or anything else that you think fits.
Does this fit?
I knew that ultimatum was not going to work for Jim.

Jim was a bit of a dumb dawg himself. I agree with him though, dogs shouldn’t sleep on the bed.

Haha! The dog is cute and the steps so handy.

Maybe Darlene would have been a bit more agreeable to keep the dog off the bed if Jim hadn’t been so rude about it. I have a single bed so I didn’t allow Cindy to sleep on it because there just wasn’t room but when we had a big bed, we often did have our dogs sleep on the end of it. Just not inside the bed. I don’t like that.

Haha. He shouldn’t have given the ultimatum. That dog is too cute to refuse

I’m not a dog person. I know people do and it’s their choice. To me a dog belongs outside, not inside. As far as being on the bed don’t get me started…..
Here’s a question. If quarantine allowed I might like an orangutan for a pet. I believe they can bond really well with humans. Would I allow it free run of the house? No. What is the difference between an orangutan and a dog? OK Fan no waggie tail, no friendly woof. BUT They will patiently wait at the window (with longing eyes) for you coming home. You can even train them to even prepare your meal. And bed. Put a pinny on them. Ophelia my pet and helper. What dog can make a bed for you Fan? Or brew a coffee?…..
Question . If one agrees both a dog and an orangutan would make suitable pets, and a dog inside. and perhaps allowed on the bed, why can’t Ophelia have the same ‘privileges’. ?.. What is the difference? Personally, I wouldn’t even entertain the thought of an orangutan inside. Why makes a dog inside acceptable but an orangutan not? I’d be interested in thoughts…….

Personally, I would love to have an Orangutan (lol) but they just haven’t be “humanised” enough over the centuries. I would be happy with a lot of animals, but that’s just me!lol

I believe the word is “domesticated.” Just like my wife did to me.

Yep, we pretty undomesticated pre-wedded. A wide spectrum of undomesticatedness. I was about the middle. I still am …..

Don’t ask something you are not prepared to have answered… there are nights I have all three cats in the bed with me. As long as they don’t make a mess I am fine with it.

If someone makes you choose, always choose the dog.
