I get some interesting spam comments on my blog, most of which are captured by Akismet, WordPress’ spam blocker. I generally do a mass delete of all of my spam comments after checking to see if any legitimate comments got caught up in Akismet’s spam-catching net.
I thought it might be fun to select a particularly interesting or unique or outrageous spam comment and highlight it each week. Here’s one that got my attention this past week:
I loved as much as you will receive carried out right here. The sketch is tasteful, your authored material stylish. nonetheless, you command get got an impatience over that you wish be delivering the following. unwell unquestionably come more formerly again since exactly the same nearly a lot often inside case you shield this hike.
I have no idea what this spammer was attempting to say, but it was posted in response to one of my FOWC with Fandango word prompts. Constructive criticism, perhaps?
Anyway, have you read some catchy spam comments that you’d like to share with us? If so, put them in the comments or create your own post and tag it #FSCW.
I’m spammed endlessly with offers on Mercedes camper vans. God knows I detest camping, so they aren’t coming from him.

I love incomprehensible spam. Do they really think we are going to be tricked into something (what?) by gibberish? Or do they just like gibberish?

My last 19 spam comments, which are in my Trash folder are re-blogs of my posts by OIKOS™- Art, Books & more.

Lol! What nonsense! Gibberish for sure! I get lots of spam about how good my articles are, and how the spammer got so much out of reading them!

I just went and looked at the close to 300 waiting for me and thought this one was funny:
“The next time I read a blog, I hope that it does not fail me as much as this particular one. I mean, Yes, it was my choice to read through, however I truly believed you’d have something interesting to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something you could fix if you were not too busy looking for…”

Here’s another one that’s funny: “An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a friend who had been doing a little research on this. And he actually bought me dinner simply because I discovered it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanx for spending some time to discuss this topic here on your “

That’s funny because I got the exact same comment today, except the meal was breakfast, not dinner. 😂

😄 Spam comments can leave us a bit baffled at times.
In my case, the spam comments that I received were mostly from someone claiming to be a doctor (They were selling various types of oils).

I just looked and ever since I stopped comments on posts older than 31 days, the spam has almost dried up. Only one today which I have deleted already.
The RV and Camper Trailers were big intermingled with the occasional p0rn site. Hard to resist those big assed girls 😂😂

I did that just over a year ago when I was getting between 200-300 spam comments a day. Now I get between 10-20 a day.

Midterm elections are coming so I’m getting a lot of “You are Americas’s last hope! We’re all counting on you! Click to donate for a 4X match.” Starting to feel like Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I think it’s mainly because of 1] a new blog and 2] very few followers -Fandango. On the Guy blog, l used to sometimes [especially pre-business plan, which began in 2019] get upwards of 1000 spam comments a week.
But l also find social content and personal blogs that have a lot of prompts and a lot of comments [so more traffic flow daily/weekly] receive more spam]
Spammers, especially on WP sites, hope to get through the filters, as not all sites block spammers. Most do, but in a spammer’s mind, it matters not as it’s not costing them anything, as the bot is automated.
It’s a nasty nefarious business that has deeper connotations than merely being annoying.
Let’s be honest most of the spam comments are caught up in either the spam folder or the pending folder, so it’s not that bad, and we have to take them out of the comments. Occasionally, a straggler comment hits the real-life space, but not often.
The busier a blog is, the more spam it attracts. That’s it – the appeal to the bot. Reducing links in a comment, disabling comments and other preventative measures keep them out of the way. But not all methods like that are great, are they? A bit defeatest, perhaps. But you could turn off anon comments? Or request log-ins. Moderate comments – there are methods to help ease the issue. I guess it depends on how many you get every day or week.

I had quite a few, but the comments tend to be the same. I love the ones that tell me how great my detail was and it is a comment on a very simple poem… how is that detailed. Your comment is definitely unique!
