SoCS — Back of the Fridge

For her Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt this week, Linda G. Hill has given us the phrase “back of the fridge” and asked us to write the first thing that comes to mind when we think of the phrase.

We have three “trash” bins where we live. The blue bin is for recyclables, the green been is for compostables, and the black bin is for non-recyclable, non-compostable trash that ends up in a landfill. The trash, recycling, and compost trucks show up early on Tuesday mornings, and one of my jobs is to put the three bins out by the curb before I go to sleep on Monday nights.

And every Monday night, after we’ve finish eating our dinner and cleaning up afterward, I start gathering everything to put into the respective bins. And every Monday night, just as I’m starting that chore, my wife invariable calls out to me, “Don’t forget to check the back of the fridge.”

I have learned to be very thorough when I check the back of the fridge because on several occasions I missed some items that definitely needed to be thrown out. And when my wife discovered that I failed to check the back of the fridge, well, let’s just say…

Hell hath no fury like a woman who found items that her husband missed when he checked the back of the fridge.

    Ha. I misread this as in back of the fridge, thinking it meant behind the fridge so my post is quite different than most. Perhpas I’ll go face the horrors of the inside back of my fridge now.

      It’s easy to see how back of the fridge could be confused with behind the fridge.

        Ha.. thanks for supporting my altered view!!! The fact that she was talking about the back of the inside never even occurred to me. I just thought “What an original prompt.”

          I did a google search on “back of the fridge” hoping to find a picture of foods hidden at the back of the inside of the fridge. But most of the photos were of behind the fridge.

    A large container of olives, a Costco container of feta cheese, Bloody Mary mix, a Ball jar of yeast.
