Our Daughter’s Favorite

When our daughter was in elementary school, her favorite female performer was Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. Whenever she came on stage, our daughter said that Stevie seemed to glimmer all over, displaying a certain effervescence in her billowy outfits.

She faithfully followed Stevie Nicks’ career, and then, when I scored tickets for my daughter and her best friend to see Stevie and Fleetwood Mac perform live at an indoor venue in our city, I was a real hero in my daughter’s eyes.

For a few days, anyway.

Written for these daily prompts: Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (elementary), My Vivid Blog (glimmer), Ragtag Daily Prompt (effervescence), E.M.’s Random Word Prompt (billowy), Word of the Day Challenge (faithfully), and The Daily Spur (indoor).

She was my favorite at the end of elementary school and on for some years. She’s had a long career.

I’m sure you didn’t mind being there, yourself. When I saw her in my adult years (having seen Fleetwood Mac once as a teen), she wasn’t touring with Fleetwood Mac (that I know of elsewhere) [with her was Joe Walsh, opening, outdoors in CA]. She actually had a tent on stage into which she disappeared during the show in order to imbibe cocaine and whatever. I had decided, some years before, not to listen to her because I felt there was a mismatch between her having said she wanted to teach young women — and my inability to figure out what good she was supposedly teaching — and my liking her too much. This extreme stage in her life didn’t improve the moral disconnect. I did get over the avoidance of her music, though, having realized the personal comparisons common (including per physical features) at that time were stupid. All of this has some distant similarity to my having taken one of my sons to see an act that I myself enjoyed. There wasn’t a claim to educating the populace (but there was major fandom and serious artistic ability). The lead singer passed not many days after. At least Stevie seems to have kicked the habits. And she was touring again, as Fleetwood Mac, not too long ago. Apparently on tour as herself now.
