I Hate My Power Company

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is my electric and gas utility company. There was an electrical outage in our area on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, our whole house generator that we bought two years ago for just that purpose crapped out on us, leaving us without electricity and AC for four hours until the power was restored. I wrote about this here in response to Paula Light’s The Monday Peeve prompt.

Today, at 2:30 pm, the electricity went off again. And our generator has not yet been fixed. The good news was that by 4:00 on this very hot day, power was restored.

Can you guess what happened 45 minutes later? Yep, the power went out again. It’s now after 8 pm my time, more than three hours since today’s second outage, and there’s still no word on when we can expect power to come back on.

So three power outages in three days! When did Northern California turn into a third world country that can’t even provide reliable electricity to its residents?

I’m pissed.

Mood Model

You’re my alter ego
Each day when I awake
I see your flexible wooden body
Positioned in a way
That reflects my frame of mind

Yesterday your pose was a happy one
And I had a very good day
Today you look depressed and sad
And I’m already feeling down and blue

Cause and effect?
Self-fulfilling prophecy?
Maybe I should throw you into the fire
And take my chances
But I’ll really miss you
My little wood mood model

Simply 6 Minutes — The Audition

I still don’t understand what went wrong. I was on a roll, man. I had all the right moves, you know what I mean? I had them on their feet, for crissake. I was a shoo-in for the part based upon all the feedback I received.

So imagine my shock and disappointment when they gave the lead role to some other guy. What’s his name, Travolta or something like that? He’s a hack, that’s for sure, but he has the look I think. The slicked back hair, you know, and the white polyester leisure suit. Personally, I thought it was tacky, but there’s no accounting for taste these days, is there? And on top of it all, that SOB stole all of my best moves.

But, hey, that’s the way the cookie crumbles, right? They’ll be other parts for someone with my talents and skills, just you wait and see. I’m not going to let that Travolta guy make a monkey out of me.

Fandango’s Provocative Question #179

FPQ

Welcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question. Each week I will pose what I think is a provocative question for your consideration.

By provocative, I don’t mean a question that will cause annoyance or anger. Nor do I mean a question intended to arouse sexual desire or interest.

What I do mean is a question that is likely to get you to think, to be creative, and to provoke a response. Hopefully a positive response.

I recently read about a poll from Axios/Ipsos, which found that among Americans who’ve gone on vacation in the past three months, more than 70% say they took absolutely no precautions to reduce the risk of getting COVID, such as wearing masks or practicing social distancing.

This triggered a couple of thoughts. First, I haven’t gone on a vacation since 2019, sadly. Second, if I were to go on one now or in the near future, I would definitely wear a face mask when in public.

So I have a multi-part question today.

Have you been on a vacation/holiday in the past three months? If so, did you take any precautions against contracting COVID? If you haven’t been on a vacation/holiday in the most recent three months, when was your last vacation/holiday? If you’re planning to go on vacation/holiday within the next six or so months, will you be taking any steps to reduce the risk of getting COVID?

If you choose to participate, write a post with your response to the question. Once you are done, tag your post with #FPQ and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Or you can simply include a link to your post in the comments. But remember to check to confirm that your pingback or your link shows up in the comments.
