It’s August 2, 2022. Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.).

Today’s word is “willpower.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. Show them some love.

In 2015, a dentist turned researcher exposed documents — dating back to the sixties — showing a trade group, the Sugar Research Foundation, had paid Harvard to lie about the science of nutrition and say that what we needed to decrease in our diets was (not sugar but) fats and cholesterol.

Two hundred years ago, the average American consumed 10 teaspoons of sugar every 5 days. Today, we (unknowingly, and on average I’m sure, because I know I don’t) consume that much every 7 HOURS. We might NOT have needed to cut down on sugar from the fifties and sixties, but the reduction, instead, in fat and cholesterol led to replacing that flavor (which fat provides) with tons more sugar and lots of processing. There are at least sixty-one different names for sugar to be sure aren’t in the top three ingredients for any food you buy for your children on a regular basis. And this speaker/dentist recommends no concentrated sugar before age two. The need for dentists is increasing faster than any other occupation. December of 1983, the NYT predicted according to a public health expert that tooth decay in children and young adults would be gone by the turn of the century. But fluoride can’t keep up with the huge dietary change. It probably would have done what we’d hoped with our old diets (food habits).

The recording is much longer than the article, and not in the same order, per the information.

There are a couple of trade organizations that are at the center of the opioid industry, and one of them is called the Healthcare Distribution Alliance. It is a little known trade group, it is incredibly powerful in Washington, and it represents the three largest drug distributors in America: McKesson, Cardinal Health and AmerisourceBergen, along with a host of smaller regional organizations.
