I came across this challenge, Pull Up a Seat Photo Challenge, from XingfuMama, in which she asks us to “create a post with a photo of places one sits or might sit, or art about sitting, and maybe a little background or story about the spot or a picture of the view.”
I thought back to a visit to the de Young Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. We used to live about three blocks from the de Young, which has frequent themed exhibits. I took the photo below in 2018 because I thought it was intriguing.
I don’t remember the specific exhibit or even the artist, so I did a search today of my photo using an app on my iPhone, Reversee, and discovered that the piece of art is titled “Him and Her Hold the Root” by American artist Lonnie Holley in 1994. The work was part of an exhibit at the de Young of 20th century American decorative art in 2018.
So pull up seat and enjoy yourself. What’s that you say? You don’t think it looks very comfortable? Oh well, you can’t always get what you want.
I am afraid that chair would break if I tried to sit on it.

Me too if I tried to sit on either chair.

Haha but art can be subjective and some people may find it as one.

I took a picture of it because I just thought finding it at as an exhibit at an art museum was kinda weird.

I’m not sure I get the art message. My first thought on seeing the picture was that a branch had fallen on the seats, then noticed it was a root, or that someone was trying to hold the seats with the stick. But I like your Sunday Photo Fiction Post: https://fivedotoh.com/2018/10/21/sunday-photo-fiction-one-mans-junk/ idea better than anything I could up with.

I like the challenge. Sitting is something everyone does and most people take for granted, often to the detriment of our bodies.

I am not sure I’d choose those chairs to sit in!

I’ve had WordPress randomly delete material from one of my posts before in the past. I’ll take a look now!

Anything can be art, as long as it elicits an aesthetic experience from the beholder. If I felt some connection to the sublime after looking at a giant paperclip, then it could easily be considered art. Ha!
